Word dude, it’s definetly gonna take a hit on technical abilities in comparison to the NOS setting but pretty worth it when you just want a bit more energy.
Alright so i am super pumped how well this came out. Since the RS6 is as good as it is, I’ve been enjoying it at my desk as well as portable. Got tired of propping it up on random objects so I decided to make a stand for it. I’m aware that similar things can be purchased for cheap, but I assumed that none would really accompany the RS6 very well given its size and most notably thickness. Yesterday I decided to make my own from scratch, so I drew it up in Solidworks.
And today, fired up the 3D printer.
Only used red because I was too lazy to swap filaments out, but I will likely make another in a different color shortly. Anyway, came out better than I expected, and I’m super excited about it so i had to share.
And, I’ve saved the best feature for last and the one I’m most excited about. This was my main goal with this little project, and the main reason I decided to make my own instead of buy one, to have access to all ports while in the stand. Mission accomplished.
Not sure who all has the RS6 besides @Littledrummerboy, but if anyone wants one, I’d be happy to make one for you. I can also take this design and make some slight modifications to the model to accompany other DAPs as well, and of course, does not need to be red.
That looks real good, I’ve been meaning to make sort of docking stations for my p6p on my different setups
Bro that’s sweet! Looks real good, 3d printing is pretty awesome for stuff like this. I’d definitely be interested in one for my p6p if you are willing, especially since I’m doing more and more listening at the desk with the portable setup these days
Hello,
Quick question for Hiby owners:
Does the R3 work with Apple devices?
If so, how? also only Bluetooth or also with cable or both?
I’ve been in a bit of a mess with the Hidsz Ap80 Pro X.
Unfortunately, the player does not work with Apple devices, only via Bluetooth.
So nothing with 24/192 mqa, the support just deviates from me in the Chinese way.
From a technical point of view it looked better
on paper, but in the implementation grade D.
Otherwise, it sounds okay and drives the Aeon R/T well.
Let’s see how Paypal sees it for 170$ and that they say it supports Apple devices and in the end it doesn’t I think the price is exaggerated.
I was looking around some things and noticed that new the hiby costs
1399.00
Its crazy how much Hiby Daps lose their value even new I wonder if it’s because they release one every hour. Because idk I don’t feel like I’ve seen other daps lose as much value just new! Because I’m pretty sure when I bought it it was like 1500 or 1600.
@elementze btw any idea when ur RS6 arrives?
Probably another week
It’s shipping from Asia
Rip, but I’m suuuuuper looking forward to ur impressions once it does arrive!
The Darwin settings go on forever…
Any recommendations on settings? Opinions on NOS mode?
Look at that beautiful case ughhhhh do jealous lol. I’m gonna buy one too, eventually.
Main key points are have NOS on, harmonic controller makes it a bit more exciting, personally I go from 40-70 max usually. And keep gain on High. I think as long as you do that ur good. Altho to be honest I enjoy Oversampling alot too, typically the higher dawrin settings like Darwin 5-7-10. I’ll be suuuuuper curious about ur impressions
I’ll go with NOS for now and start building an opinion.
And yes, the gold and green is
Yep pretty much this, run mine at similar settings
Any impressions? @elementze
Yeah, this thing is no joke. I could see this being end game for desktop and portable.
General Observations:
I really appreciated the R6 for features and sound quality. HiBy really nails the features with their android implementation! It was my go-to for a lot of IEM listening over the last 6+ months. But its limitations were pretty obvious when I put the TH900 PW on it. It sounded flat, missing detail, narrow compared to my desktop chain. Also, when I would put my IEMs on my desktop chain it was obvious that the R6 was the limitation on sound quality, not the IEM. That’s not to say the R6 was a low performer, I would compare it to most $500 DAC + $500 Amp setups I’ve heard. Good for the price. I just always knew something was missing when I took the R6 out for a listen.
Going to the RS6 I would put it on par with my current desktop chains: BF2 → GS-X Mini and dac2541 → V280. Not nearly as powerful, but detail retrieval, width, tonality is in that $1k+ per component level. And that’s not to mention streaming components to get the most out of those signal chains… the impressive part with a DAP solution is there is no power or digital source concerns (no network streaming, no dirty wall power). So it’s just charge, download music, and listen.
Sounds Quality:
Detail retrieval was the first thing that jumped out to me. Little details in the background come through clearly. Second thing that jumped out to me was width. Those little details are placed very nicely and well separated, some nearby some off in the distance. And layering within the soundstage is very obvious, front to back, left to right, very nicely placed. This all combines to give a great “environmental” feel to the sound.
My listening is almost entirely with NOS. The combination of smooth and detailed is great. I love the reminder that detail doesn’t mean bright or harsh sounding.
It’s not as “punchy” as my desktop chain, impact of drums and strings isn’t as energetic. But that’s not really a bad thing, more just a matter of preference and mood.
That’s it for now. More listening needed
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
Hahaha, yeah I generally agree with you. It’s one of the reasons that the RS6 is my standalone dac and has been for the past what like 6 - 7 months already? Don’t know but I’ve had it for a hot second now. And I think those were also some of the main things that stood out to me at first listen, detail and accuracy in placement of everything. Glad to hear ur enjoying it!
I agree as well which pretty much everything you said. I love the rs6 to th900PW, both standalone and using the rs6 as a transport plus dac, line out to my cma800r, absolutely excellent.
Some teardown pics of the R6 2020 and RS6. These are from NP Audio.
I believe this is the RS6 R2R ladder
Warmup on the RS6 is definitely real. Listening this morning I was a little surprised / disappointed at first. It sounded good, but not as engaging as it was last night. After about an hour it has “recovered” the tonality and dynamics I remembered.
Interesting to have this behavior on a battery operated device that has to be powered down regularly. Maybe just turn it on in the morning, let it play for an hour plugged in to charge the battery, then unplug from charger and listen? Probably too complicated a procedure, especially since it sounds fine “cold”. But a little warmup brings out the magic.
