Good tube amp pairing for the ZMF Verite Closed

what about something like this?

Ultrasonic Oblivion

Just received the Quicksilver, only listened to a few tracks on it but i can already tell it is something special, i freaking love its sound with the VC. I can’t describe it yet but everything i like seems to be there and then something more going on with the soundstage, i have no idea what it is lol.

Thanks for the help guys, i will report back once i can say something more useful about them

You’re in for a treat. The Quicksilver/VC combo is really great. That was my setup for over a year, and I never felt like I needed to upgrade my amp. I got the tube-rolling bug for a while, but the Quicksilver was never in jeopardy of going anywhere.

Woot! Congrats, I still have my Quicksilver basically permanently connected to my Eikon. The Quicksilver/ZMF pairing is a good one, I hope you love it!

Niceeeeeee! So jelly! Makes me want one bad lol. Maybe eventually. I bet that it really must be a great pairing with the VC!

Ok, looks like i have a small problem, lol.

What the hell just happened here? Sorry, i am new to tubes so no idea other than ā€œthis is badā€. I smell something burning…

It turned purple before the lights show started:

Looks like the tube was damaged or leaking and its going super heated

What is the best approach here? Buy a single new tube? Does it have to be a matched pair so both channels sound the same?

Also, the tube is a JJ 84 and there is a small 4k2 written on it, but the ones i find online don’t have the 4k2.

Yep, the tube glass is cracked, just hope this did not damage the rest of the amp!

Probably not, i had cracked glass due to bad shipping on a guitar amp. It would work but i would stop it before 30 seconds as you could hear the distortion crank up as that tube overdrove itself.

Was it cracked in shipping? Any chance of getting money back for it? JJs are ok new production but this could be your chance to grab a nice matching tube outfit.

Tha tubes were fine for days, looks like it cracked by itself, not sure if that is possible…

Looks like synergy with the VC was just off the charts that it couldn’t handle it. Lol

But your amp is likely fine. As explained to me when I first went into tubes, treat tubes like light bulbs. If one’s busted, just simply replace. Once a tube fails, it will be just like having an open circuit.

I wonder what would have happened if i was not there, like if i left it on while doing something else in another room. Could it catch on fire or something like that?

Generally speaking don’t keep tube amps connected and on without you being around for long times. Recipe for disaster.

It may have been a weak spot and cracked with the recent heat cycles.

They usually just self destruct, in they end they are just like light bulbs, there’s a heating element and without the vacuum, it just consumes itself.
The glass was probably stressed during shipping.
I had a bad 5u4g rectifier, I am fairly certain the seller in question tested before shipping, and took out the fuse in a $3K tube amp, no permanent damage.
I also had a $1K rectifier destroyed in shipping, it happens, they have metal elements inside glass, and even with great packaging you can get unlucky.

@luizgarcia There’s a 90-day warranty from Quicksilver on tubes if you bought the amp new directly from them or from an authorized dealer. I’m sure Mike from Quicksilver will send you another tube in this situation.

I got it second hand, i have ordered a new matched pair of the same JJ tubes, i love this amp so much i don’t want to change a thing, hahaha.

So, i am moving back to Brazil and over there it is super hard to get new tubes, i think i will buy another matched pair of both tube sets as backup and i am thinking maybe i should try a different flavor while i am at it.

I don’t want to change this amp’s sound a lot because as i said earlier i just love it, but could you guys recommend a tube upgrade that would focus on bass impact and control (without compromising on the rest)? I need that for progressive rock / metal. Again, i think it is already great with the stock tubes but if it can be even better, then why not? hahaha

Always good to have a backup

If you haven’t checked already, M0N tube rolled it and posted some options on the article he wrote: Quicksilver Headphone Amp Impressions – Sonvs Apparatvs
