General Source Gear Help/Discussion Thread

Well it depends on the headphones. I think the ifi is more than capable for most headphones on the market.

My solution for this is L&P P6 Pro and Cayin C9, which can achieve desktop level performance. Otherwise, there are some all in one boxes like iFi Pro iDSD that would be reasonably easy to move around.

I’m the same as @FiCurious, running a DAP’s line out to a portable amplifier. In my case RS6 to WA8. I don’t know how much you are planning to spend tho specially because I took a peak at ur profile and u got some hard hitting gear :eyes:

Also sadly there’s not much transportable stuff out there. Like for example the WA8 is one of the only amplifiers that is a straight up desktop amplifier. They designed it to be plugged in at all times, it just so happens to have battery incase you need to not plug it in for a bit. But even in their site etc they recommend it’s plugged in at all times. They just shaped it in a way that it’s more convenient to move around if needed. Sadly there dosent seem to be a big transportable market :frowning:

This reminds of that sony box. Don’t know how it performs or how it will sound on hps but I think this fits what you’re looking for. Pricey though…

There are lots of integrated solutions, even an higher price points, but generally one aspect or the other is compromised.

If you don’t have hard to drive planars the headphone out on the Dave is pretty decent, if you like the Chord sound, higher up than that the DCS Bartock can be bought with a built in amp.

But usually you are either buying an amp like the Violectrics, with compromised DAC’s or DAC’s like the Chord/DCs stuff with compromised Amps.

You are absolutely right here that something will be compromised and I am fine if it performs on lower level than my main setup.

It seems like it would make most sense to have two setups but I don’t have eny space unfortunately to have permanent secondary setup.

Also I would still need something around pc for casual gaming and videos.

So I guess I just stick to what i have and use dap+iems outside of desk. It would be nice to put Susvara and lay down on the sofa instead of killing my back more on my pc chair. But nothing is perfect.

This looks cool but the price is way above my pay grade.

Move the PC next to the sofa or get a comfier sitting spot next to the PC

How far is the pc setup from the sofa? Just get a longer cable, problem solved :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Boyzz my whole apartment is 69m2. So i would love to have multiple setups in it or listening chair but I will not risk my wife’s eyebrow shooting up to the sky. Plus we expect an addition to our family so the space is dedicated to more important geat/stuff right now.

The longer cable however could help is some way and would be probably the cheapest option…lol

Indeed the one with streamer included and no remote control.

Actually no control at all

Congrats on the inbound screamer! Know what model yet?

oh boy that’s small lol yeah a longer cable will probably be the best and cheapest especially if the sofa is in the same room as the main setup, this way you still get all the sound quality and the better comfort as well

We expect the one with better bass presence after burn in. I just hope the treble will not be too hot. First time experience with screamer so not sure what to expect.

It is actually relatively big for the city. Everything bigger is just insanely expensive these days. We bought it from family few years ago so price was like 30% of current market price.

ah makes sense, I’ve never lived in a apartment before so… lived in houses my entire life, ours is roughly 3000 sqft and it is considered average size by most. I couldn’t imagine only having less than a fourth of that space :grimacing:
