Fostex TH900 / TH900 LTD / TH909

i think they were also 1799 or 1899 EUR here
2299 seem the lowest listing I can find around here now

From Head-fi ?

Wow. I wonder if it is just a covid thing where they got behind in production, or is related to shipping costs etc. The 900mk2s also went up proportionately. They are selling at what the 909 used to…

There is a nice set for $1100 on Head-fi, seller is ‘since1991’. Doesn’t do our friends in EU much good though

So you’re back in the gang or a gift for someone?

Yeah, back in the gang. Don’t really care for headphones these days but seeing Andy’s “downgrade” made me realize I could build a decent chain for ~$2k and reunite with my old love.

Hell yeah, welcome back! I love my pearl white. Check out the dekoni pads if you wanna mess with them some.

I lawton modded a th900mk2 (driver & cup dampening, stock cups) and it sounds pretty close to an anniversary tuned pair. Kinda interested in hearing one again since the best thing I heard it through was a DFC. Stock th900mk2 is kinda crap tbh

I’m glad you were able to get a sound you prefer while keeping the stock cups. That set you have looks really good and still fits into your travel case.

I do still have lawton cups but not optimal for traveling and long listening sessions haha

Been a while, but my Pearl Whites havent left my desk not for one day. Currently listening through a Cowon Plenue S, just lovely.

There’s something special about the Foster drivers. They have such a sweet, natural timbre, IMO. Very resolving too.

My Fostex are the only headphones that I’ve held onto.

Glad you’re enjoying yours.

The PW’s are very nice indeed.

I completely agree, very much underrated IMO. I’ve had other HP’s that were higher in cost and supposedly with better “technicalities” all around that still did not make the cut for me.

FWIW - Still rocking my TH909 (the only headphone that I’ve repurchased another after selling). It’s the go-to set on the yggy/v550 setup.

Edit: just realized wrong thread, pleae move if necessary.

What do you guys think about this deal?

$850 includes shipping/fees, no dents or scratches on the cups and dual 3.5mm jacks

Custom audeze headband is what really interest me because the og headband is all wobbly in my head and this one is clampier.

I dont like the aesthetic very much and I would have preferred to get the stock pads… (stock is more bassy right?)

Do you think its a good deal? Some very nice ltd versions are not far of in price

There’s been a lot of modding done to that unit that type of thing alwyas makes me nervous.

Do you think they could have modded something else apart the pads and headband?

The photo honestly looks wobbly and 360 rotating cups (not confirmed) but the seller said it fits snug like an audeze

Its obviously not the first owner, the drivers are old and every single listing by the seller is quite modded.

Are you impliying a recent pair of ltd plus a comfort strap could be a much better investment?

I never thought the audeze headbands were clampy. Be design theyre a suspension headband and use the weight of the cans to pull things in.

Yeah, ill definitely go with th900 ltd with comfort strap, but the th909 also looks very tempting

Ive gather that I definitively want a LTD or th909 version instead of the th900.

My dad is getting me a used one for my birthday.

Can you guys help me pick between LTD and the 909?

I read the whole thread and some reviews and all I gathered is that the 909 has more bass quantity/prowees and extension while the ltd has a tighter, cleaner bass. Both descriptions sound awesome to me, is there any other difference?
Is there any important difference in the treble? I love sparkle and sheen

Thank you in advance
