All of this will be off headphones right? Was gonna say you should try a directstream but might be lost on headphones
Yes it will be all off of headphones. If you think the direct stream is worth a shot im more than happy to see if I can find one though. TBH I didnt include it in my interest list cause I feel like I dont see particularly positive impressions of it anywhere
EDIT: just saw they released a mk2 in January. I’ll see if I can find one.
Yeah I don’t blame you. I think everyone stopped looking at it after the first few firmware updates. However, i tried the last firmware on the MK1 and it didn’t really have all the issues people were talking about. MK2 would be tough to find a demo of since it’s so new.
If you like vocals, wide soundstage, good separation, and realistic drums, then I’d say it might be worth a demo.
Know someone who doesn’t? Lol
Yeah kinda. If you listen to really heavy metal that’s super busy and vocal quality isn’t that important or if you listen to really intimate music that shouldn’t really have a wide soundstage, etc. I also know someone who just listens to 90’s-2000’s rock that’s poorly recorded so it’s also fairly lost on him too. Electronic music that doesn’t really have vocals. Large orchestral music, etc etc. I think you get the picture
Very interesting. The mk1 is only like 2k used so it would be fairly easy for me to pick up. If discrete doesnt make me loose my mind and force me to get it I may just do that as a “tide me over” while I try more stuff.
yeah if you can get it for under $2k, it shouldn’t be too hard to get rid of. Also if you hate it, you can’t blame me
Its extremely possible that it doubles down too hard on aic for me tbh. Thats my exact worry with going up the TD chain and mojo mystique as well tbh
you know, I just wanna say, holy shit is it nice to finally have my chain back. just so so so much better than what ive been running. Like I upgraded all over again. TBH after not having it for a while I feel like i have a better grasp of TD as well now, so il make sure to update my descriptions at some point this week once its back fully warmed up.
It wasn’t so nice giving your amp back
Just wanna say, first impressions (of sorts) of WD Bal (not sig) is that its a step more detailed (its more forward as well, but this jump is past that being the only difference) than dual but missing a little bit of the romance/magic. I do wonder if this opinion will change as I put more genres through it since all of my listening so far has been pretty unitarily neu-wave bullshit that really shines on the kind of exaggeratedly grandious stage of the dual and tends to get a to be a bit too much for me on more forward chains.
Also, holy shit did the reclocker make a difference. Guess ima stop worrying about it being shit tbh.
So I know @M0N and a few others have said a few times they dont know how I focus on work with my gear. TBH its not been much of an issue, but going back to shang sr after a couple of days on sus and I think ive met my match. With sus I can pretty much just shuffle and ignore. With shang I 100% get pulled out fairly commonly going “what was just there that ive never heard before?”
Just gotta say, god damn do I like P6 Pro. Using it yesterday and today on AIC (took the dual home to get it listed and twelve wont arrive until tomorrow) and its just seriously so damn good. Still probably my favorite dac from a presentation/tonal sense.
Its got just the right amount of spice. Got solid incision and impact. Fantastic density and stage. And some of the most well balanced energy ive heard even still.
Have you tried a msb before? Can’t remember, but I wonder if you’d like it since I think tonally it’s almost kinda a similar direction in a sense
I havent. I was considering a discrete for a while (would still like to hear one tbh) but honestly kinda got put off by some descriptions of it ive heard calling it more relaxed than may.
I enjoyed my time with your P6P but every time I got back to a real DAC I was reminded what it can be like lol
It’s a very solid performer for what it is and for some systems and budgets I’d probably pick P6P over anything else.
I think for me what makes the p6p so damn special is that it’s realy the whole package in terms of just being excellently balanced. It doesn’t compete with higher end desktop stuff but the presentation and tonality are just so insanely pleasing to me tbh
It’s not easy to build a $1800 (its used pricing) system that has source DAC and amp that compete with it on its level. Depending on your headphones this is a good recommendation as any imo
Twelve impressions:
Jesus fuck its good. Thats it. Thats all ive got so far. My brain is still trying to catch up to what all is happening.
EDIT: Also, warm up length is fucking wild.
Never turn it off lol, I swear it’s gotta be like a week or more
