So I decided to use P6 Pro → AIC today to see if I can put up with it until the totaldac arrives (so I can sell yggy) and you know, this is legit not as dumb as it seems. Off of internal storage it really really is competing with yggy quite well. It sounds damned near neurtal comming straight from yggy (which its not at all) but the real shocker here is the clarity. everything is much more defined and has better flow to it. I think I may need to add a writeup on the p6p as a dac to this thread tbh

I’ve seen it compared to the Holo Spring. That’s pretty good company for a pocket sized component!!

Just using this with a 3r renaissance and not the matching reclocker but I didnt expect this thing to be as good as it is even lacking the propper front end tbh. At the ~1500 these seemingly go for used its pretty damn viable. I would be currious to try it with the propper ddc tbh. At the new pricing of 8k i kinda dont imaging it quite competes with stuff like weiss but i totaly could ~4k the stack seems to be able to be had for used

Looks like both my Tambaqui and Nagra classic demos have fallen through unfortunately 
Ill hopefuly get some info written up on the meitner and maybe one other dac written up today though as I should have lots of free time after lunch

I’d just get a Mola Mola Tambaqui and call it a day because it’s cool to say. Then put it on your cocobolo wood desk. They’re all good at the level you’re shopping.

By chance, do you know if this shop would’ve had an MA-1 V2 in for a potential demo/purchase? (I’m also in SoCal. :D)

They usualy have one but dont currently due to parts shortage. Just tbh though, MA-1 v2 and MA-3 are basicaly the same price used, so I would personally just go MA-3 tbh

Jesus fuck is my p6p not up to snuff for this amp. Got the M1SE (no mdx) in house and its been long enough since ive heatd a dac this tier that i kinda forgot how much i was gimping the amp tbh

Im liking it but its very very hard to describe. Like, it just kinda is. I thought the weiss was neutral but this may be even more so? Its just the most dac sounding dac ive ever heard. Like every slider on a charecter customization screen was pixel perfect dead center. Its wierd. I need more time to rry and get words put together for it.
On a side note, this is the best ive heard 13r. I dont actively dislike the amp with this dac (which is a first)

Yeah seriously, I just kinda describe bricasti stuff in general as something that just gets out of the way and does it’s job lol, there’s not much to call attention to outside of perhaps it’s bit more smooth nature

Totaldac d1-digital-mk1 → d1-dual
To be frank, I am a bit torn on this one. Overall I like this chain a lot. The real problem is that I am having a hard time putting this sound into words. The d1-dual has a very obvious NOS sound, but as you likely know there are a great deal of varieties to this sound. The totaldac stack leans very heavily in organic Ness and tonal density. Its certainly heavily colored but instead of being dark/bright, I would more of call it vivid. It does this weird thing where it smooths over texture to the point where it isn’t spicy, but still somehow also presents very texture forward? TBH it kinda is like “the best low-fi experience possible”. I kinda listen for stuff and go “ew” when I pay attention to what its really doing but I also just cant bring myself to take the cans off (have needed to go down to the floor for a n hour and just keep putting it off). Like I am fairly certain its got dog shit SINAD and maybe even an IMD hump, but it just kinda works anyways? IDK, this shit is seriously hard to explain for me right now.
Over all its got fantastic organicness without actually having the outright best timbre. I also think the detail is a step back from something like an m1se (but I would need side by side to say for sure since they are so different in signature). The stage isn’t massive but extremely well used and stuff fades off into the distance quite well making the stage feel larger than it really is. I think the only real complaint I have is that I would like it if the dac kicked a bit harder. AIC has great control but it isn’t the absolute most punchy, so it can use a dac that leans very punchy when used with sus IMO, and the totaldac seems to fall more into the middle ground of punch. Its certainly not soft, but its also not exaggerated like I tend to enjoy. This would be a non-issue on most other cans though (for example I suspect something like x9k would still punch plenty quick)
