What kind of amplifier is this and what is Crayon?
I have already seen one thing that I am slightly allergic to.
It’s because it’s a standard product that’s easy to buy and doesn’t cost much but is often used to cut costs.:tipping_hand_man:t3:

It’s a SS amp made by crayon audio. It’s now discontinued so you can’t buy it anymore, unfortunately.

Are you referring to the alps vol control? Oh I’ll be bypassing that if it’s worth it

Ah good to know on both counts.
Otherwise I would only have got silly ideas.:see_no_evil:

Well, the Alps could have been left in until nothing worked and then improved.
What I meant was white with red lettering.
That definitely works better, I had them in a certain amp, since they are out and have been replaced it is really better.

Well damn… my dac ain’t even warmed up yet but it’s quite obvious that this is one hell of a match with the mysphere 3.2. Color me surprised, this is one unique-sounding amp!

I miss that amp! Which DAC was it…Wavedream?

Hoping the Corda Soul I have coming will help fill the gap a little.

It’s being put to good use and taken care of!

Gotta say, it’s nice not having to think about tubes (as great as they are). It’s always ready to go and there are no sudden noises inherent with tubes.

No, linnenberg Satie DAC. I do think they work quite well together and it’s a pretty nice balance so far. I do wish the crayon would hold onto fundamental notes a bit longer, it can get a bit too fast sometimes. Bass slam could also be improved, the modwright does better in this regard.

That being said, I did play around a bit by bypassing the pot on the crayon and changing my DAC filter to IIR. For now, i settled onto -6db on the gain and controlling volume via DAC. I did think +6db sounded best but only when controlling volume via the crayon pot.

The result ended up being a bit cleaner leaning overall, slightly away from its inherent smoothness (not in a bad way). The filter change also helped bloom up the bass a bit and added back a bit of that slam. It’s not as spacious as when I first listened to it but I’m fine with that. Resolution is also really great! :ok_hand:

@M0N @FiCurious did you find any noticeable difference using the dual-xlr over the single xlr output on the crayon or was it pretty subtle? Trying to finalize what cable termination I should get…

Most of my headphones are terminated in dual 3 and that’s what I used, I didn’t really test or think about it tbh so not sure

I’m assuming you have an adapter lying around… If you do which mfg did you go with?

For dual 3 to single 4 pin or single 4 pin to dual 3? In terms of dual 3 to single 4 pin I have a prion4 adapter and kimber axios hb adapter, and had a jps sc adapter. Have another one but don’t remember what it is

I have a DHC Prion4 dual 3pin to 4pin but no cable to use it with… let me know if it’s interesting to you

Ok cool thanks. How about for single to dual, out of curiosity?

It is, pm in a bit!

Less of those since I either didn’t need them or didn’t find them as worthwhile, I think I’ve got a zynsonix cable one or something similar level (it’s either zynsonix or corpse and I don’t want to go digging for it lol)

I didn’t have a cable to test the difference, so I only used the 4 pin XLR.
