If it’s new, give it time. Also the more you go into the high fidelity realm the more certain changes will simply show what’s really there. Welcome to the rabbit hole, that’s the bad side. The good side is that you’ll notice a more obvious difference with changes you make. Cables, power, recording quality, synergy.
The Chord DAC’s tend to be very susceptible to noise, using the Dave with the NS1 was night and day, and surprisingly close to what the MScaler does.
At this point I tend to believe that the MScaler is as much acting as an isolation device as it is a re-sampler.
There is a lot of personal preference in oversampling generally, I tend to prefer none oversampled DAC’s, but I don’t mind oversampling. HQPlayer for me was very much take it or leave it at the best and preferred without it at the worst.
Taking into account protype of new Chord Choral M scaler, which includes 3 levels of galvanic isolation and a separate power supply to diminish RF noise, I also tend to think - noise sensitivity is a major weak spot of current Chord dacs and the most beneficial thing original M sclaer do - providing you with another layer of isolation.
Totally agree with this.
I had similar experiences comparing the HMS paired with the Qutest, and using the X-SPDIF 3 with the Qutest.
The HMS was definitely better, but many of the changes were similar (at least in type of change).
I’m guessing this has more to do with the Sinxger than the overall affect. The HMS provided a little more bass than the X-SPDIF 3, but in terms of quality of bass, that was another level.
I think TTVJ does loaners if you were interested in trying the HMS.
Now, I`m interested in trying how it sounds if a decent streamer will feed directly into TT2
Honestly, I`m not fond of re-clocking theory (that DDC does) and tend to think if you have a clean digital signal, the less manipulations with it, the better
But streamers are computers, noise wellcomeback again…so who knows which is better ![]()
