For all Chord electronics
Any word on the mojo compared to it’s newer model?
I know Chord can be polarizing, but I do enjoy some of their products. I figured I’d add a Chord thread since many have tried them (and moved on, or stayed).
Chord mojo used to be my aio back in the day. I enjoyed the little thing, it served me well
@ValentineLuke did a article on it.
Sorry, didn’t search first.
Kind of surprising how unpopular chord is around here compared to the outside world.
I have only about two hours of total listening time with chord products (mscaler to Dave to WA33 Elite and 3ES Elite) and I didn’t really like it
That’s the one DAC of theirs that I haven’t heard.
The mojo2 reminds me of a mini tt2. Love the radiance and mojo2 pairing. It’s my bedside/around the house chain when the family is around.
I think it is a nice upgrade. As @Rhodey mentioned I did a write up.
Endgame.
Any thoughts on the EQ features?
I’ve been curious how useful they are.
I haven’t really used it. I’ve only played with the cross feed, but from the way it’s described it seems like a very good implementation.
Maybe I can play around with it later and let you know.
I haven’t messed with it too much. About the only area I’ve used was in the bass. And it was only a bump or two. Didn’t notice a negative in the sound (weird compression or anything being off). Most of the time I just use it stock. Seems to be a nice EQ tweak if you’re into that.
I have just read this article after purchasing the OG Mojo for $250 which i think was a good price.
I knew the Mojo 2 was a big upgrade over the OG but i am glad to read that the OG will probably be a nice step up from the Qudelix 5K i currently use for my IEMs on the go
Maybe if i like the OG enough i will sell it and get a Mojo 2 in the future.
That’s awesome. I’m glad you’re enjoying the OG, it’s a fun, well performing little DAC.
Definitely leave some impressions when you get the chance. I love to hear other’s experiences.
Just got the Qutest in, and it’s been very impressive so far. Need more listening time to develop stronger opinions, but so far I’m much more impressed with sound quality via spdif or Toslink than I am with USB. Is Chord known for having a good USB implementation? Or should I just steer clear of it?
He seems to have liked it. Says it has a good amp, but overall the Mojo2 is sharper/more detailed. He even likes the color mechanism.
I have Dave on loan from a friend through June, or until we get back from Canjam Chicago.
Plan is to live with it for a week or so until I really start comparing but I’ve done some quick comparisons already. The setup is rpi running ropieee, usb out to dave, and then bricasti mc1 is just using the network input. I grouped the two dacs in roon. They are both connected over xlr to the serene although with different cables. I haven’t matched the volumes but could roughly figure out how many clicks on the serene I needed to get a similar volume overall.
Quick thoughts are that the Dave feels very clear and almost sharp at times. There’s more treble air, it feels a touch faster, and imaging is super precise. The MC1, is smoother and has more weight in the bass, stage might be a bit bigger on the MC1 but imaging feels less precise. They feel like they are on a similar level overall just with slightly different flavors.
I also just tried using the dave as a dac and preamp into my speaker amps. That worked well but I find that when I put the serene back in, the low end gets more weight to it. However the serene seems to mask some of the detail, and precise imaging off the dave.
Just some early thoughts but it’s fun to try another dac. I don’t feel like I’ve ruined the MC1 for myself which is good.
