Man the Yamaha does seem like a disappointment, had high hopes. That being said, I’d genuinely take a modi/magni 3+ over an rme, so for now I’m just going to hope that it’s just the rme being a massive handicap and not the headphones themselves lol, oh well

Yeah, the Meze Elite makes even my very comfortable ZMFs feel a bit clunky and awkward to wear. The build quality and comfort is next level from everything I’ve ever tried. Luckily for me, they are just technical enough and sound good with everything I’ve plugged them into. Glad to see them get a little love here. They’re my current favorites if it wasn’t obvious.

I’ve returned home from Canjam.

I got a selfie with Fang Bian.

And I learned Viva Egoista STX is really good? Fuck.

Anyway that’s all for now.

iirc someone on Head-fi also mentioned the YH-5000SE was mid-fi~ish sounding*, and the mid suck seems to corroborate with that nisimura sound demo on YT from 2 months ago. It’s a shame :slightly_frowning_face: .

I appreciate the D8KP LE v. Caldera comparisons. I’d love to pick up the LE or a future non-limited version with the same tuning & tech. Modhouse’s new planar has also piqued my interest as well. Is that a closed or open model?

*Oh, that was literally @Draaly who mentioned that on Head-fi. Well 2/2 then, lol.

The Meze Elite are my second favorite headphone that I’ve heard (next to Susvara). They just sound good, IMO.

I didn’t see it mentioned, but did you get to try the Elite with the 23RM?

No I did not but I think it’ll sound great. Might be a bit warm or smooth for some but can’t say for certain. My bet is it would be a good pairing.

Awesome, thank you.

I wonder if they screwed with any settings on the rme with the Yamaha. Though I don’t recall any setting that would describe what you heard…

Actually maybe the loudness setting was turned on? (I remember I had this on accidentally and it sounded horrible)

Or some eq was applied?

In any case, it’s a bummer. Wanted to add it to my wishlist. :disappointed:

And great impressions btw!

Don’t let one or two impressions sway you away since you seemed very excited about these. My two cents are just try to audition it first or get it from a place with a good return policy. It’s a lot of money for what I personally feel isn’t justified.
Many head-fiers disagree with me btw and already got a couple of messages saying I should try them again. One even said they’re more colder than neutral when I thought they were warm!

I assume you missed the Diana closed back?

I saw them on the table but I never heard a Diana and understood these are very much an early prototype both sound and build wise so I passed for now

Shows aren’t the best place to evaluate anything. Useful for hot takes, but everyone’s show impressions should be taken with a bucket of salt.

I don’t see an he-1 impression. Didn’t get a chance?

I heard them. They aren’t done yet. Sounds solid overal but a massive 8kish peak that they are still working on sorting out. I would call it promising, but expect another year before release

100% agree as I wrote in paragraphs 2 and 3.

Went to register for it but was fully booked already. Didn’t even know it’s available until @Draaly told me he had a spot. If it weren’t for our nice time together and great tacos I’d call him a shitty friend for not putting my name in lol

I also tried Yamaha on p6p and lp6. The tonality sated fairly wonky. Detail maybe improved a little, but considering they isolate better than d8kp and d8kp was significantly more detailed sitting at the same booth I wouldn’t expect detail to be all that high.

I legit just assumed everyone knew it was there and then ran into like.a dozen people the second day who went “He1 is here?”

Oh! Also, forgot to mention I heard may → bliss. Sounded basicaly exactly how I expected. Little dark and dense, crazy control and slam, and made me feel completely dead inside. For 2k if they drop I think it’s worth while with a spicier dac, but v550 feels like a little easier of a req tbh

Bliss will never drop to $2K it’s $3600 new and they keep their value well.
