Audeze LCD-R

I don’t understand why Audeze didn’t include a larger spacer between the pads like they did for the 24 and the 4z? It seems like that would totally rectify the issue with fazors touching the ear.

The added distance would maybe increase the peaks, I’m guessing.

Sometimes I wonder if it’s planned obsolescence like computer companies do. Fix it on v2?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It’s audeze, they love their revisions, I’m sure they will figure it out after a few lol

Well, if that is the case…then I am kind of surprised they didn’t use the pads that they used on the LCD-5.

@sa11297 be sure to update us on your wa33 escapades once you get enough time on it

Just rereading this thread as I evaluate maybe ditching sus and making LCD-R my main can. @M0N mind if I ask what your favorite setups for the R were? I know you mentioned the aic and oji being excelent but didn’t know if maybe there was something else yoy didn’t mention that you also quite liked

Maybe ill write something more in depth at some point but overall I am really liking the wa33 and have decided to sell my formula s.
I found the lcdr to sound better on wa33 than the jot a. The jot a has more bass slam but is more harsh in the upper midrange or something. Wa33 is large stage and smoother and well just better (as is to be expected).

However, between the lcd5 and susvara, I am selling the lcd r today. I just don’t think it is the same level as the susvara. However it is a really nice headphone, really fun bass, intimate vocals.

The egoista 845 was a hugely fun and grand sound, but it somewhat exaggerated some of the qualms I had with the headphones

Otherwise I mainly ran and enjoyed it off speaker amps, didn’t try on too many amps to make sure I didn’t blow something up

I somehow missed your comments on the egista rereading the thread. I will have to keep that one in mind as well then. Have any just “honorable mention amps” I should keep an eye out for speaker amp wise?

I never really commented on that one since I thought it didn’t showcase the best of the headphone tbh

Aka it highlighted how inorganic the LCD-R is?

Yeah and also the lack of refinement in some areas. Still very enjoyable and impressive, but just got a bit distracting from that

These are pretty far and away my favorite can. Something about the funk it puts on stuff just makes it truly my subjective preference even when its lacking in technical ability compared to other.

I’ve also had susvara for a while now and tbh, I’m not all that enamored with it (running Su-2 KTE → Sagra → 13R). Despite the astonishing technicalities, I just dont ever find myself truly getting into the music and enjoying it. I had a similar issues with arya and just moved on but the technicalities of susvara are so mind blowing I wanted to try a bit more to make them work. This lead me to delving into EQ.

I got resolves EQ profile for LCD-R up and running on roon to see if maybe my preference for the R is pure and simple FR tuning. Well, turns out its not. I think I may prefer the Rs with a slightly different EQ than resolves (one that doesnt bring the mids quite as far down) but holy hell are the LCD-R still just far and away the most enjoyable headphones I’ve ever owned. I am still going to try some more stuff for sus (for example I use LCD-R off of a WA8 that simply wont run sus and the 13R wont run LCD-R, so I want to try an amp that will run both so I can actually compare directly), but something about these cans that transcends FR and stage presentation just gives me a lot of what I’m looking for tbh. I realy do wish I could pin down what exactly makes me love them so much but so far Ive got nothing truly conclusive

I really like the R. It has a certain immediacy to it’s sound.

I look forward to see how Audeze evolves them.

Just wrote this for someone else and figured I would post it here

Amps that are signed off by the manufacturers as stable with the LCD-R are

  • Chord TT2 Rear XLRs
  • All Woo
  • Riviera AIC-10
  • Analogue Squared Paper TUR-08 (though the designer feels it wont sound good despite being stable)
  • Pass Labs F7
  • Raal HSA-1B Ribbon Port (may need anti-hiss adaptor depending on revision)
  • Weiss DAC501 and DAC502 headphone outputs
  • All OG Cavallis (as per Jason at TSAV who consulted on their circuit designs)

Known Unstable combos

  • Bakoon 13R/Enleum 23R
  • Front output of TT2
  • Any output of Hugo2
  • Any output of Dave
  • Cayin C9
  • Masskobo 428
  • Bakoon HPA-21 & 01M
  • Any/all Eddie Current amps (though he will work with you to get a transformer that can do it for a fair cost)
  • Raal PDA-1a
  • Nothing Traformatic

Ones I think I was told work but cant find the confirmation in my email from when I asked (so double check before you try):

  • Raal Standard port support Varies by revision. There are now 3. Just email to check.
  • Viva Egoista 845
  • The rest of the pass lab amp lineup
  • Firstwatt J2
  • Oji Special BDI-DC44B2 -G Tuned Ⅱ
  • MassKobo 394II
  • Auris Nirvana

I got the sign off from the shop I’m at that the OG LAu is 2ohm stable so LCD-R went right on it with his blessing. Generaly fairly pleased but only 2 songs in. Not quite as wow as sus was on the same combo

Basically 0 volume play at my listening levels though so I had to turn it down by dac dsp and have the amp set at mini volume esentialy

Just added a few more things to the amp list

So my cans are the newest addition to the channel imbalance list :’(

Good news is at least audeze CS is pretty awesome and im local to them so hopefully i can just drop off even instead of shipping. We will have to see though. All ive gotten so far is what looks like an automated response saying to try tip rolling or changing wire channels but i didnt expect much else having emailed them on a sunday tbh

@M0N when you tried LCD-R on AIC, I am assuming you use the XLR or 1/4 on the front?

Asking cause im getting super wierd channel imbalance issues going on with my Rs on AIC but they seemingly eother arent there on jot or at least much less. The wierdest part is, the imbalance stays on the same side when switching the cable sides around so I cant figure out wtf is happeneing and why it doesnt happen on the jot

Pretty sure it was speaker, strange issue
