Audeze headphone thread, LCD 2 / 3 / X / 4 / 5 / 24

Starting a thread for this fantastic headphone (mainly the prefazor’s but the fazors are still nice too lol). Def one of my faves at the price point, wonderful tonality and timbre, great smoothness and liquidity, still pretty technical but never offensive about it, nice width and overall space, great both macro and microdynamics, lots of speed and separation. A warmer, wider, and rich signature that’s hard to not enjoy imo. Also reasonably forgiving with amp pairing too, but can still scale

Admin note: edited to include all audeze headphones

My prefazor pair literally just got here like an hour ago… but the cable is a 4-pin XLR so I can’t use it because none of my AMPs have a balanced output lol.

Now I wait for like a week for my Hart Audio Cable I just bought to come in.

Damn, well when you do get that sorted will be very curious to hear your thoughts lol

The day my cable gets here I will be sure to come back here :stuck_out_tongue:
Very excited though, all the things I’ve read about it seem amazing and right up my alley in terms of sound signature/characteristics.

Thank you Mon,
Since I got the Aeon R/T, I’ve been grounded a bit.
They are both very good and each has something the other can’t. At least that’s how it seems to me.
But it’s also hard to compare the two when you have both.

But what I absolutely love about the Lcd 2 is that you can put it on and just enjoy music in a completely different way.
So far, no headphones have really managed to do that.

Many people always ask on which amplifier it is best.
I don’t think we’ve ever really found a reference, because it’s also extremely connection-friendly.
So far I have liked them best on the Little Dot 1+.
I am looking forward to my Custommade hybrid amplifier that I have commissioned.

However, even though it has received good reviews, I still think it is one of the best planars.
It needs an update in the Lcd2C open version for sure.
A bit brighter, and better presentation from the rear would be nice for my taste.

Switched out the headband and finally gave a once over to the Audez’e LCD-2.2 pf I bought from @don . I hit the wood with the provided wax & oil and the leather a little conditioner.

I tried to take pictures that showed the dark chocolate nature of the rosewood and how the radiance in the grain just shined through when the light was on it. I forgot the word that is specific to the radiance of a woods grain and figuring but you can see it glow here.

I also had my first short listen to them. It was on a bf2 + rnhp and I can tell it was a little underpowered and not the best match overall. I heard they were good on the Cowon Plenue S but I dont have a compatible cable.

The sound signature was dark and heavy with appreciable thickness. It felt close in but with most of the sound coming from the furthest parts of that smaller stage. Very smooth where most things sound a little smoothed over and slightly blended over each other. Texture was a little flat. I think the negatives are mostly from an amp mismatch though, and I will 100% admit this was a sub 30 minute session. Very surprising there would be details that just pop out of no where. Small sparkles that crack the dark facade. And equally surprising is the height. A track with a crackling sound felt like there was a fire under the stage, directly under my feet. I never had something so low in placement before.

Nice, I will peer pressure my friend who likes audezes to get one so I can try it 4 free, the ldc2c just wasnt for me

We started on a similar route but I ended up going the audio technicas and beyer path

What amps are you guys using for your Pre Fazors?

Thus far I have enjoyed them on PASS labs HP-1, and Eddie current studio B. I purchased and am awaiting a Decware Taboo mk4 specifically for these and my other Audeze planars to experience what is supposed to be a synergistic match from some research and my own opinion I formed. I’ll see when the amp finally makes it into my hands.

Asgard 3 and Liquid Platinum both had good synergy at a reasonable price. They benefit from some power but aren’t terribly picky otherwise.

IME they scale well and sounded reeeally nice plugged into a Wolf Ear Makoyi tube amp.

Can’t wait to hear about this pairing.

There’s a ton of amps I could list, it has good synergy with a lot imo.

Some of the already aforementioned like hpa-1, studio b, taboo mk4, v281/v550, liquid glass, hpa-21, taurus mk2, p750u, cma800r, bha-1, mogwai se, ha300 (either), wa5, hpa5000xl, inspire iha-1, egoista 2a3, etc I could go on, there’s a lot of higher end amps that are pretty great with this headphone all with different flavors

As for more budget options the plat and asgard 3 have already been mentioned, would also throw out the iha-6, g111, and possibly the quicksilver

Thank you for the input everyone. I dont think I am into the >$1k range for these yet but I do think theyre worth it to invest more than the Asgard 3 (although it would stack nicely with the bf2).

Between the g111, iha-6, and liquid plat, do any of them stand out more than the others? Do any of these favor SE over Balanced inputs? Sonically I am looking to liven up some of the heaviness and add a little more separation, though I feel any of those will do that over the rnhp.

I get a feeling this will be that turning point that puts a liquid plat on the list after so many times dodging it.

Edit: I also see a few LPs under $400 which helps its cause.

Both the iha6 and plat will care more about having balanced inputs where the g111 will be similar on it’s bal or se inputs imo

Yes. The plat with the right tubes or the iha-6 would likely add more heftiness than the g111, and all should have a step up separation wise over the neve (only because of power limitations on the neve, with other headphones it would be different)

I think the LPs I see ~$350 are going to be too good of a fit to pass. I know these have big sales but it looks like sub $400 is still a decent price used.

The biggest task may be trying to figure out where to fit the LPs lopsided ass.

I haven’t heard the iha-6 and 2pf together but if you value stage that might not be an ideal pairing. Has the potential to be really fun in the punch/slam department though.

Sounds like you’re leaning LP. Great fit for the cans and the dac (bf2 iirc). As long as you have a balanced cable (I forget).

I thought it had good separation but I would agree width isn’t a priority

Agreed. I should’ve specified width. Does pretty well otherwise for sure.

I think the LP is the first step here for me. I have balanced xlrs which i hope are long enough since i bought 6" shorties.

I know the LP is a decent pairing for many other cans too so maybe it ends up being a longer term swap on the desktop
