The Cyan will do better with a more up market cleaner. With the Cyan you also have the option of multiple device inputs. I had the Cyan for a great long while and it was my first “high” end piece of gear, very capable for the price range and IMO a real under the radar product.
To clarify, I actually wound up buying this for the Allo. Way too much to spend on it but it’s very good. I had some credit with Kitsune and used it toward the purchase. But it’s crazy to buy something like this otherwise since it’s more than the price of the DAC itself.
I think one can get by with a nirvana smps and have a pretty great sound for less than 350, I’d place more priority on getting a decent psu first over the reclocker. But agreed if you have the extra funds, you might as well get something better used if possible. The allo solution would make more sense if you are much more budget restricted or couldn’t buy used
Exactly, also since a lot of people simply want a DAC and that’s all they’ll get, it’s a good value prop there since you get a good core DAC with a lot of flexibility in that ultra competitive $200 to $250 dollar neighborhood. It’s not like other DACs wouldn’t also required a good PS and a signal reclocker. So the problem is not unique to the Allo.
It’s just that if your goal is to move “up” then IMO saving up for known good performing mid tier DAC is a better spend of your dollar IMO.
Oh it would, it’s just that you’d be committing to USB as the input. If you’re okay with that. If however you look for something used like a Singxer SU2 or SU6 which pop up used every now and then. Remember though, if you buy a reclocker, you’ll also need a good PSU for that, so nothing is stright forward simple. That’s why it may be better to look for a reclocker that has an on board power supply. (one less expsense)
I actually didnt understand half of what you said, I dont know what a reclocker is so ill do my homework, investigate on the matter and then understand your recommendation
There’s an article on cleaning up your digital signal chain in the public front page of this site! Start your reading there! I’ve heard it’s a very good read.
I use a Titanis on my laptop, my laptop is noisy. The titanis does an excellent job, I don’t get any of my hard drive noises and interference. It’s plenty good enough for what you’re doing and your situation. Spend more when your entire front end is upgraded and you are no longer working off a laptop or pc.
That’s my humble opinion.
Anyone interested in the Revolution DAC and Shanti LPS combo, let me know. I reconfigured my desktop and the fact that there’s only USB in means I can’t use it as it’s a long distance away from the PC.
I was going to keep it as a “back up” DAC but figured if anyone is interested, I’d give them a good price. Less stuff for me to keep in the house. Great little unit for a second system or a bedroom set up.
