its probabaly not as bad as you are thinking. Ive kept an eye on that market for a while and ~6k should get you a set of E3 DCs (but not the fancy stand and their splitter cable) if you are patient enough and watch japanese auction sites
I’d honestly just wait until you get the totaldac in and see what that does from your chain, and go from there imo, can help you potentially refine goals now that you would have a new dac in. Also make sure you really like the totaldac so you can lock it in and narrow down amp options though dac synergy needs
just FWIW, vincent says to run shit directly off of the rear XLRs of his dacs. It may be worth waiting and just trying that as an opion.
absolutely second this opinion. No way I would make such a move before getting a DAC upgrade like that. Especially since no one basically even heard the unity before that you can learn from anything…
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, so you can, although while cool it’s pretty iffy imo. That being said perhaps it’s different with the new ones. Only dac that I felt could truly pull that off was the kassandra imo
hahaha. TBH I have 0 expectation of that working well, but I dont have the cable t try it myself. Just figured it was worth mentioning with the new higher voltage output stage
Ya ya not in a rush at all, just scoping out my options so I know what to look out for and do research for. Research takes so much effort in these things, especially with so many options and a slim used market. Lot of good ideas here and got a lot of homework to do
Going to see if anything looks interesting at CanJam as well.
I used to think exactly that, then i auditioned it using my Quicksilver and was blown away. There may be others like the Quicksilver around, although not many.
That was my journey with the HE6 before i got the 1266, damn that thing is hard to pair with an amp!
I received my Pads from Abyss earlier today. I did apply the headband pad and tried it on. Such a huge comfort difference from stock headband.
The Bass Ported Pads are the way to go IMO. They don’t add a ton of bass…it is maybe 2 to 3 db at most (compared to the leather non ported pads). But the best part is that the wonderful mids and treble of the Diana V2 stay largely in tact. If there are any differences in the mids and treble, I am having a really hard time noticing.
After more listening this morning, these ported ear pads are definitely my favorites on the Diana V2. In addition to the small increase in bass, I also believe that I am hearing a tiny bit more air up top, as well as a slightly larger and wider soundstage. The soundstage shape has become more spherical as well, instead of the default left/center/right…so more depth with these pads as well. I definitely recommend them to anybody that is interested in some of the improvements I cited above.
Are the ports the four corners?
Interesting how the little bit of an air gap makes a difference. Makes sense since FR change as pads wear.
The corners, as well as the space between the magnets. From what I have read, porting tends to work best with single sided planars. I am sure their is a scientific reason why that is so, but I don’t recall what it was. Had something to do uninterrupted airflow.
You can tell they actually engineered them. Those dimples are there for a reason. Something to do with turbulence, I think.
Abyss is absolutely an engineering led/driven company. Function over form all the way.
Yeah, no. Those dimples are there so you can attach your own port plugs. As per Abyss’ video on the pads.
I only did a quick comparison but I agree. It’s a welcome change but it’s not super crazy. I feel like I got the same amount of bass boost from just sticking some folded up card stock between the pads and the headphones. But I had screwed up my originals and received these as a bday gift much cleaner look anyways than the DIY route.
I picked up some Diana ported pads for my V2 that arrived in the mail just yesterday. I haven’t listened to them a ton, but they already pass the bare minimum test that you’d hope they’d pass, which is that they sound better than the porting job I did myself by sticking something under the normal earpads. As mentioned, I’ve had limited listening time, but so far, I like them!
Anyone here know anything about the Diana V2 chassis change? Supposedly the new ones are slightly different. Are these changes significant?
“ very slightly smaller holes and slightly less of a downward angle to the machined sides, and earlier style black leather headbands (possible minor cosmetic blems, not the French leathers of today), otherwise they are factory new and carry the full warranty.”
Old chassis Diana V2 for sale for $1750 from Abyss.
If I have a Susvara and Utopia 22, does a Diana V2 have a place?
