I was considering buying one of the VC epoxy stabilised when they were released and had convinced myself I needed one But after seeing the price I might get a normal VC at some other point.
They do look very nice though.

this statement did not age well at all.
I just read that about 10 mins ago and LOL’d hard.
I said the same about the Elex, Clear, Verite and Utopia. And meant it!!
oh i really do mean it when it comes to the senn though
Please, please, please tell me you had a Pendant at work.
Well, not in the sense you’re probably hoping. If I were still going into an office, I’m sure that would have happened by now. This was my final office stack from early 2020, before COVID converted me to full time work from home:
But since I have been working from home full time for the past couple years, Pendant absolutely was “at work,” for most of last year. My desk setup included AD!-2 to A90, V280 [not visible in image–it lived to the right], and Pendant.
I picked up Holo May last year and relocated V280 and Pendant to my theater setup, which actually lives to the immediate left of my desk (i.e., the desk is against the right wall from the perspective of this photo):
This shows my complete Susvara chain: Roon streaming to Holo May (by way of a Pi connected via USB) → Mapletree Audio XLR switch (allows alternate DACs / other sources) → Goldpoint level control → McIntosh 8207 → Susvara
The McIntosh chain is one output from the Mapletree Switch. Another output is V280 + Pendant (V280 conveniently does an active conversion from XLR to RCA for Pendant). All of these chains can reach my desk, so I can listen to any of them while “at work.” This week I’ve been spending a lot of time with LIRIC on V280 (and a little bit on Pendant).
I’m curious does anyone else hear a slight honkiness/shoutiness in the VC’s upper mids (mostly in female vocals)?
I’ve ran the VC through a soloist and an allnic amp but it was still consistent throughout.
Heard it ever since I got it but never really asked.
I’m using auteur lambskin btw…
The McIntosh amp pictured is dedicated to the Susvara? That’s awesome.
Well, if you’re not into spending $3.5k on an epoxy stabilized VC, regular VC B-stocks are going up tomorrow on Sunday starting at $2k:
EDIT: Actually, looks like it might be on the 21st and not tomorrow, sorry for the mistake!
The VC is super forgiving but yeah it does have the upper mids slightly more forward. To where it causes a harsher S sometimes from what I can tell. It hasn’t been a big deal breaker, and probably also depends on amp that you use. I mostly can tell it’s slightly sharper there with kpop
MORE IMPRESSIONS ON THE VC. So today I ended up having to only work 4 hours due to a internet connection issue at the house today. And YOU FUCKING KNOW I USED THAT TIME TO LISTEN TO THE VERITE CLOSED. I’ve also been using it every morning before work and some time before I sleep. It’s seriously the best headphone I’ve ever heard. It’s sooooooooo refined and sooooooooo beautiful sounding. Most organic, sweetened thing I’ve heard that has crazy good technical abilities that I’ve heard. Many headphones I’ve heard have been amazing, maybe even endgame amazing. But this blows them out of the water in most ways. I will say that it’s maybe not as fast as other headphones (altho still fairly fast!) but it’s the mixture of everything that makes it so great. The 6xx was awesome! But the separation just was slightly under what I wanted, this headphone does micro detail so good it’s nuts. Everything feels like it has its own spot too and the depth UGHHHHH so good. I’ve been able to put it thru its paces more now with different genres including hip hop, pop, ballads, lo-fi, classical, alternative rock etc. And everything sounds pretty dang great, I keep on hearing details in the recording that I have never noticed. Imaging is surprisingly decent too! But for me it really is all in the MIDS. Mids city! It has lovely mids and really just combined a sweet sound on em PLUS crazy good separation and clarity. FUUUUUUUCK THE CLEAR AND EIKONS
Also as I listen to these babes more, the spatial recreation is really superb! The way it presents the music in such a holographic way. MWUAH. Now for utility purposes I wouldn’t say replace my speakers since I bumb em up when I need to bring the roof down but these headphones 100% could replace my everything for music. It’s so addictive. Oh also it’s surrprisingly lively sounding! The 6xx was awesome for just melting into the music, these are awesome for engaging with the music while just being surrounded by your music. Stage is really surprisingly expansive sounding so far. Listening to heize on these atm and soooo good. Brings that soul, separation without sacrificing tonal balance or engagement. Love love love these dudes
Negatives: These are very closed in terms of sounds from outside not coming in. Which you would think is fine, but I have anxiety issues  either way it’s relatively fine lol just part of the expirience and also it’s nice to block out unwanted noice. It’s true that I live I an extremely quiet house but that won’t necessarily always be the case so nice to have. I can see why there might be some ZMF fanbois around after this lol
Edit: I think for me staging reeeally matters. Because after thinking about it, Hawks OG only, Andros and now these are some of my favorite things ever. While I hated the spherical focal presentation.
FUUUUUUUCK I MEAN IT FEELS LIKE HEIZE IS SINGING JUST FOR ME. SOOOOOOOOO GOOD
Cool that you’re enjoying it. My opinion is that if you didn’t really want to upgrade your source gear past, let’s say, a pendant or something like that, then they could definitely be someone’s endgame for sure. Just a really nice, well balanced tuning that goes well with most anything, and they definitely will sound fine on lesser sources as well.
Word, it really surprised me by how good it sounds on the LP. Also considering that it’s solid state. Well hybrid but still.
Any cable recommendations for the VC?
Is the Audeze Premium cable any good?
I need SE and given some recommendations I don’t mind hacking a balanced cable into SE.
I don’t have much experience with many high-end cables, but I really like the look and feel of the ZMF 2K Copper cable I acquired recently. I used the ZMF OFC cable before the 2K, and I think the beauty of all that braided copper has convinced me it sounds better.
They have a build your own kit for $99, I upgraded to the silver cable… I’m going to make it personal putting it together! Not a bad place to start for under two hundred bucks. I ordered the coffee gold color.
Dang, didn’t realize they have a build your own kit for such a good price gonna look into that in the future. I will say I’ve been loving the sound of the ofc cable the most so far.
Well, not quite–it’s dedicated to my theater surround, but since it’s a 7 channel amp and I have 5.1 surround, I had a couple spare channels to leverage. So that’s dedicated to Susvara.
Some more technical updates on them besides me just eargasming and saying they are the best lol. Been getting some solid listening time whenever i have the time, i don’t know if it’s because they are closed but they do have a more hmmm immediate sense of space. I think its because you hear the reverb a bit and btw i totally love that. These and the LSA really had a sense of reverb which actually makes the music experience cooler altho these are more lowkey (in a great way). If i had a way to describe it, it feels like alot of details come in waves, for example Devita - 1974 is already a slow song with the reverb type of effect mixed into the song BUT the slow decay this headphone gives, the lingering of the vocals and instruments in the space feel super awesome. Really makes me fell like these headphones do this type of stuff best, just encompassing the music notes for longer helping you enjoy em instead of dissapearing into nothingness. Now then because i mostly talk about the extremely musical aspect of this headphone slow decay etc it really might sound like is just good for like relaxing with the music but today i was listening to a bit of pop, in particular 청하 (Chungha) -Flying on Faith which is a super for lack of better words, epic song. Its just a very intense song with alot of cool stuff going in the chorus, background etc and this song SLAPS on the verite C. It has a sense of impact that goes deep for sure, not saying the bass extension on it is crazy good nor notihing (decent but not a strength) but the general impact that the bass has is super fun, fairly tight and really fast! It surprises me sometimes when the driver shows its speed on my music. I would say that even tho to me it really reminds me of a super 6xx it shows its differences in terms of presenation where the VC is a much more impactful and engaging headphone while the 6xx is a fair bit more laid back. Imaging on it is pretty dang good too, i would say something that is interesting is that it dosen’t feel as accurate spatiously in terms of where everything is but at the same time imaging is totally great. Left to right is portrayed perfectly with no deadspots nor anything of the kind. Its hard to describe everything but it just feels like the control the headphone has is pretty superb.
I have been veeery surprised tho, because even tho its a super musical headphone in my chain, its surprisingly fairly transparent to recordings. Like if i play 레드벨벳 (Red Velvet) - Psycho or 스테이씨 (StayC) - Complex its really surprising how much those two songs are more like walls of sound (compressed without much layering) while even when comparing it to something that is more pop recordring esque (not as crazily compressed but not a particularly great recording either) like 볼빨간사춘기 - 우주를 줄게 (which is Galaxy by Bol4 btw) there is actually a fairly big difference stil on the staging of the song. 우주를 줄게 (Galaxy by Bol4) sounds more spacious, layered and dosen’t sound like as much as a wall of sound. Which on most of my other gear tbh both of these have all kind of been similiar, you would have to go to something with an actual awesome recording to usually notice differences like on Monsieur Periné - Veneno
Either way, big takeaways so far and things that i don’t feel like i really had that good a grasp on before this headphone have been more things like decay and attack, two words that are thrown around alot and altho i can’t say i fully necessarily get them i think i do. The ability of this headphone to throw a sense of immediacy at times and to slowly or fastly dissipate has been pretty awesome. And the most important thing (to me) is the perfect balance its shown to have so far. I always thought i wasn’t too picky because tbh i always enjoyed almost most of the gear i had tried but then i realized just because i enjoyed it and liked most of it didn’t mean i could actually enjoy them long term, only a very select few have been truly enjoyable over long term. And all of that gear shared a few things in common, very specific traits which are : good tonal balance (could be strange but still enjoyable like hawks),good timbre, forward vocals, slam (impact), and a certain level of speed and detail . Basically a engaging but natural headphone that dosen’t sacrifice any level of naturalness (timbre and tonal balance) and has the ability of being fairly fun and laid back at times. So far the VC has been for sure superior in abilities and superior in enjoyment over many things ive owned so far!
