Youre over here making me want to get another wa8 iust to roll it…

Also, there’s been a suprising plus to getting this tube as well. If anyone follows the hiby thread my main dac is the RS6 line out. And i would always let it warm up to sound it’s best. However after the tube upgrade I straight up just plug and play. Both the wa8 and the rs6 without any warm up and it’s such an improvement over anything else that ive ever heard where it’s a non issue lol. Also feel like the WA8 dosen’t really improve too much with warm up surprisingly. (although there are improvements)
IT’S THE SYLVANIA TUBE. BEAST.
The way it presents detail is just so addictive. Update on how the sound has changed.
I would say now that I’ve got much more time on it the tube has become a fair bit less bright, not what I wanted necessarily but I roll with the punches. I would say it’s bass is just as active as the stock tube’s bass, upper mids are still more prominent over lower mids but they definitely evened out a fair bit more. Treble is just as detailed and awesome. Again even though the sound frequency wise became slightly less neutral the real star of the show is the presentation of the Sylvania 6BF7 tube, it’s super addictive, super detailed and fun.
Recently I’ve been more interested in vocals, so out of curiosity I switched over back to the old stock tube. I do have a different perspective now that the Sylvania tube is fully burned in, so first of all. The Sylvania is just as non-neutral as the stock tube but in very different ways. The stock tube is extremely warm with an emphasis in mid-bass and lower mids while the Sylvania tube is more W shaped almost with a emphasis in upper-mids, treble Sub-bass/mid-bass. When it comes to everything else I mentioned however it’s still the same, way more detailed, way more awesome presentation, faster sound the Sylvania tube is just more awesome. Buuuut I will say this, when the Sylvania tube is one I gravitate towards (K)pop, hip hop, Orchestral basically most things except vocals… I think that the stock tube still places an emphasis on vocals which is very nice and still has a fair bit more of soul which is nice depending on the music. Loved my session with it today. This leads me to say that I’ll be asking my boi Mike at Woo Audio for a recommendation tube that’s kind of a upgrade to the stock tube sound. @Draaly so when I visit California on August and visit u we will have more tubes to play with lol. The stock tube sound does have a place in my heart which I need to fill with another upgrade tube to really vibe 1000%.Pretty fun stuff, this tube Rolling.
So far to me tube rolling reminds me of getting a preamp for speakers. You can not only change but also even upgrade the sound and its actually cheaper than buying new amps (well for my tubes, I know some of yall have those 300b tubes or whatever which are really expensive lol)
I feel like I did a disservice to the WA8 before. I’ve been listening to it with the stock tube all day. And man, I love the sound. It’s nowhere near as technical as the Sylvania 6BF7, it’s severely lacking in depth in comparison and even in general I would say it almost feels lacking in technical abilities considering it’s price. However, I cannot deny that it’s got essentially three awesome qualities. It’s got a Soundstage that prioritizes width over depth and it’s awesome, so damn wide. It’s its party trick but it sounds awesome. It’s so gooey, so forgiving and so full of soul. Fricking had an awesome music session with it right now. Just gave myself into the music. I am absolutely in love with it. I’m typically into brighter more neutral gear, so when I first got it and it was my only amplifier for my only headphone I don’t think I apreciated it for what it is. But now that I’ve lived for around a month of the other much more technical tube I reeeally appreciate what the stock wa8 sound does. Still love the Sylvania tube as well, it does something I haven’t heard with much audio and does it so well. Think this is one of those cases where I would be unable to appreciate one if I didn’t have the other.
Before
After
Felt too dirty to plug in my beloved HD800s into it. Had to give it a good cleaning before anything.
Definitely wouldn’t want the HD800s to catch anything from it.
From to
Im now worried about just how nasty the one I sold to @Littledrummerboy was given how shockingly dust prone my room is
Thanks for worrying lol. But no it’s in perfect condition! I’m thankful to u and @FiCurious for taking such good care of it.
Still looks clean, no dings, no hair etc. I seem to be extremely lucky with that so far.
So the tube mini is pretty great, especially for the price.
Standouts so far are the Diana MR, HD800S, and HD650. The D8KP LE and Utopia aren’t bad either but I feel the others are a tad better. I really need to get a cable free adapter for the Utopia and Senns.
Caldera is solid off this too. Enjoying this pairing.
