Or you get lucky and the vinyl is the same price but has a download code.
I do like the retro turnatable look
Thorens has a style to keep going.
They all have some sort of “mid-century cool” to them. Which makes sense as thats when the good ones were made. Still doesnt undermine their style.
Woke up with a crick in my neck from the Mrs letting the dog sleep with us last night. Didn’t think the gym was a good idea so I decided to open up a few parcels that arrived and plug it all in.
It wasn’t the easiest to get working but when I did, it wasn’t too hard to set up the oversampling. No chance to actually listen because work was crazy today, but I’ll find some time to listen this weekend.
I say this a lot lately. I hope unlike me you actually get the ear time.
There’s a lot of “job hugging” going on at the moment with so much shit hitting the fan, not many jobs out there and continued cuts in the tech sector. Employers know it.
A few more toys arrived this week. Now for some reason obsessed with playing the original Pokémon games in the little spare time that I have, I wished to move the experience to a bigger screen. Unfortunately, although this SNES was cheap on eBay, the seller cheaper out on the packaging - DOA.
No such problems with Cadenza 4 though. Got this for the gym, to pair with those FIIO adapters. I haven’t heard the C4 before but Letshuoer’s C12 (2024) was/is my favourite IEM when I owned it. As the name suggests, it is supposed to share much of the sonic DNA of it’s pricier sibling. I can’t speak to that yet, but 5 minutes on the FIIO adapters, I can at least state that it sounds great and certainly stages better than most IEMs - one of the aspects of the C12 that made had me love it.
Whilst I’m very happy with my Moondrop Cosmo, curiosity did get the better of me…
Zero burn-in, straight on my primary chain …yup, these are pretty good. Comfy, too.
First impressions, not HifiMan’s typical treble; less bright but maybe not as detailed in the treble as I’d expect. Excellent low end energy - super fun. I like the staging, too; more out in front of me than Cosmo - on this chain anyway. I’ll have to spend some time A/B’n at the weekend.
Imaging is good and clear, but there’s little space between images when comparing it to the Cosmo. The mid range isn’t as detailed or natural as Cosmo. And although the bass is super fun, it doesn’t come across as as clean Cosmo because the image separation isn’t as good as Cosmo.
Really, really enjoying it, despite what I have just wrote above. It sounds like such a complete package. I thought I’d need some time to parse whether it is a contender to replace my Cosmo, but it only took a few minutes of listening to familiar tracks.
It’s the best tuned HifiMan I’ve heard, is a fairly easy drive (94 mW/dB @ 28 Ohms) and is a very fun, engaging listen that I could fairly confidently say would suit a diverse library - IMHO.
They’ll take a nearly infinite bass shelf with no issues at all and it really livens them up. They have that Susvara/HE6 bass control but with noticeably faster attack and decay and they can maintain all that clarity with a pretty fat bass shelf. Only thing they lack slightly in the bass vs the big brothers is the raw weight. They’re like the only Hifiman set that I have zero issues with the tuning on in the mids and treble.
Grabbed one of the new Gustard U26 DDCs from Taobao for ~$850. I don’t know of anything else that does DSD2048, but apparently it does and the R30 I got does as well despite the specs not mentioning it.. No idea why I’d need that but I have a feeling it’s a really good DDC anyways and I’ve had some use cases on my Holo Red that have been annoying to work around. Anywho, looks nice, and price is low for now but on full launch I bet it’ll be a lot higher.
Happy new tube day! One of my Sylvania 6SN7GTA tube was dying since I noticed a channel inbalance. I used that as an excuse to buy a pair of new 6SN7 tubes and bought the Psvane Summit 6SN7.
One of them seem to have a cosmetic issue on the left tube, but it sounds good to me so far. I went ahead and email Psvane just in case. But besides that, I really like the chrome top globe the 6SN7 have and how it matches with my 45 globe chrome top. Sound wise, it’s probably too early to tell since it’s a Psvane tube, but I love how clear these tubes sound right out the gate. Per the website it’s already 30 hours of factory burn in, but I want to try to get at least 100 hours in to get a real feel for them.
Summit supposed to be their totl? Because the prices don’t reflect that.
Yep, I think summit is their new totl lineup. I think its pretty pricey for a 6sn7 tube, but its cheaper than the ray reserve 6sn7 and cryotone wathen 6sn7 tube.
A few bits arrived today. Got a uDAC off eBay as I have heard it offer similar performance to Cyan 2 but has a more relaxed presentation (more out in front/more realistic portrayal of depth) and has onboard over sampling (so I don’t have to use Roon/HQP).
Got one of these, too. I had one when they were first released but it didn’t synergise with my system (Node Nano > SU-2 > Comet+ > WA22). Wasn’t interested in auditioning one again as I’m very happy with my Cosmo, but it was a good price and so thought it wouldn’t hurt!
Let me know how the Cyan2 and uDAC compare! I’ve always wanted to try the Cyan2, but the inability to change inputs is a dealbreaker. As for the uDAC, the lack of a single-ended output is bothersome. I haven’t tried using adapters with the 3-pin floating, though.
