There’s still EMM LABS, Weiss Medus, and the MSB Select. I figure that’s anyone’s stopping point.

2x v2, something berkley, msb discrete, n05xd, wd sig, and moji mystique are all still very high on my to try list

Thank god, when is the writeup coming? TBH, I just find the who Totaldac ecosystem a headache to grasp conversationally. It’s as if any time I hear you guys talk about it, I have to read it thrice.

I understand now where the “welcome to the shitty remote club” reference come from. This against your K50? Surprised you haven’t mentioned it or do you have it as part of your ecosystem but don’t use it?

I don’t have a streamer version, I only have a pure reclocker/ddc version so I can’t comment. As a ddc or reclocker, it doesn’t compare to the k50, but it’s also hard to fairly judge that as well since I can’t separate the digital section from the streamer/server

This listing has been up for a while and I seriously can’t figure out what all is included. His rrp doesn’t make sense for the streamer + reclocker and he mentions some stuff that only apply to their dacs as well. Also, no mention of live power which is also wierd given the pricing. Tbh I just can’t figure out what’s going on here at all

After playing with the dCS a little, I guess I’m back on the Totaldac train since I’m not sure what else I would want.

So is the recommendation just to go for the Single without the live power or core with live power? It’s interesting that the core has higher output but I guess it’s cause the single is class A? The core is a little confusing to me since I would think they would have the same number of resistors as the single except the output stage is opamps vs Class A. Am I understanding that correctly?

When I was looking at totaldac, it was recommended to do single, skip core. And get live power.

Do I recall you are in Europe? If so a guy from Spain listed a dual + digital mk1 a few months ago that never sold on audipgon. May be worth reaching out to him to see if he still has it

nah i’m in the states. totaldac has always been super out of budget but with the EUR weaker than usual, it seems like a possible option by stretching my budget a little. Kind of crazy that there aren’t very many used ones. I guess people just upgrade?

I frankly have 0 idea. I was curious about this myself. It even some of my European friends who use older school audiophile forums and groups say they never realy see them come up.

As for that one in Spain, may still be worth a shot tbh. Couldn’t hurt to ask and see if the live powers can be converted given the guy was only asking 6k for dac + streamer + live powers

I had my eye on that one. I don’t think that was live power just the stock power supply.
I asked Vincent and he quoted around 500usd to convert both units and also make some updates to the dual and streamer. Did not end up getting it in the end.

Vincent is willing to upgrade used products? Were you thinking of upgrading it to a single or just the voltages to 115v?

I think what he means is he talked to Vincent and he quoted him a package. He did the same for me.

Just the voltages to the 115V. That dac was a Dual. He said the next step would be an upgrade to Six.
He was willing to upgrade it to Six and the server to V2 for the difference in MSRP and a 350 EUR upgrade fee each.

Vincent’s upgrade program is why I even got the dual in the first place. It’s rrp different + 350 per box per upgrade. That means

  • dual → direct - 9k
  • digital mk1 → digital mk2 - 1k
