Schiit headphone amp thread, Asgard / Jotunheim / Lyr / Magni / Mjolnir

He talks about it here in the video. A lot of it boiled down to his wife wanting to move to Texas full time, IIRC.

That’s kind of crazy.

I can see Jason and his wife moving to Texas if that’s what they wanted, but to close down California operations because she wanted to move to Texas seems a bit extreme.

There’s got to be more to the story.

Depends how they oversee production. It may just not be possible if Jason is first hand involved in that aspect.

Running a manufacturing business in CA has to be more expensive than doing it in Texas.

This makes more sense than moving the company because his wife wants to move.

I don’t know, I know which one I’d prioritize and it wouldn’t be cost, unless I was in danger of going out of business :stuck_out_tongue:

He also said they’re buying the space for their factory, rather than leasing as they have all along in SoCal. And of course cost of living/real estate is less in TX, and lower taxes overall.

The large item plant will be in San Antonio area, and small items (e.g. Magni/Modi) in Corpus Christi.

With the recent weather, it’s not that different from Texas now lol

Happy wife, happy life.

Something I should have paid more attention too than chuckle about. Because there’s more truth than fiction to that saying.

^picture of the Midgard amp driving the DCA Stealth

I have the Schiit Midgard for about 3 months and I am very impressed with it so far. I never really had any issues driving any headphone or iem on it. It’s a pretty quiet amp with not hiss or anything like that so far even on the 7th acoustic Supernova iem. It can even drive the DCA Stealth pretty well with a good amount of headroom to spare. The sound signature is it’s a clean sounding amp with a good amount of bass quantity to the headphones. I like Halo output (XLR output) most time on the headphones except for a headphone like the ZMF Atrium Closed. Halo output most of the time provide the headphone a cleaner mids, better separation in the music, and a stronger imaging. The ZMF Atrium Closed on Halo output mids sound less clear compare to the 6.3mm output for some reason. With the other headphones, 6.3mm is still good, just not as clean as the Halo output.

I guess my only gripes with the Schiit Midgard is that the soundstage still sounds less than satisfactory (it sounds more closed in) to me even with Halo output. I think even my HiBy R8ii internal amp sounds more spacious compare to the Schiit Midgard. Another complaint from me is no remote controller. I like using the Midgard as a preamp for my Tiny Radials, but having to get up to change the volume is a hassle.

I guess besides those 2 complaints, I think the Schiit Midgard is a really good amp especially for its price range. I think the price to performance is really nice and it’s has a good amount of features for $200. The Schiit Midgard have XLR and RCA input and preamp output which I really like. When I don’t want to burn tubes (like when I want to used the Platimon for non music things like binge shows or watching movies), I use the Schiit Midgard as a preamp for my Platimon VC One speaker setup. Enough power to power all my headphones in my collection while still having a good quiet background. I am feeding it with an Antipodes/Mystique Evo source, but it doesn’t take away how versatile this amp is. Overall, I recommend the Schiit Midgard if you are looking for a reasonably priced amp under $300.
