They are fun to listen to. I am giving them aic10 and berk ref 2. They extend pretty well on both sides but not exaggerated that much. I dont really have much experience with speakers as i do headphones though. “Feeling” the music is more fun than headphones at times?
Always, you mean
ONE OF US
New Jim Salk audio built BMR Philharmonic towers in place and ready to play Holiday music. I spent a few hours swapping around electronics and decided to go w/ less tube gear in-line for the next few weeks along w/ incorporating a 3rd subwoofer into the main system. Initial listening experience has been a genuine pleasure and joy.
The speakers easily exhibit the soundstage and holographic characteristics i very much enjoy. They were very easy to set-up and place in my room and they seem capable of handling a good amount of power, integrating the subs to my tastes was relatively pain free.
Tuning is to MY EAR and tastes, i’m pushing the system bass heavy and plan on enjoying the extra volume and capabilities it affords me during the day-time hours over the holiday weekend, i think the neighbors will let the deep thumping emanating from the house slide for a few days as long as I’m careful in the evenings
I’ll re-tune and mess with things again next week after I‘ve gotten my fill of a bit of extra chest pounding, pressurized thump.
You’ve got one hell of an eclectic mix of components there! Lovely to see.
BTW… so much for that “low volume” high dynamic range listening you’re always going on and on about. Sometimes you just need to crank that muthafucka UP, make the amp work up a sweat!
Oh BTW, remind me at some point. I have legs for those panels you can have, it will get them up the floor and closer to the mid/tweeter level of the speakers where they’ll do most good.
Lol…the second amplifier position is for the low power amps. It’s set up to go at the flick of a switch.
Unless you needed more than one.
Pair, yes i need a pair and my OCD needs them to be mated not just matched
Finally getting around to playing the BMR towers on their own, free of subwoofers, none, not even one.
Anyway, (i need/want to keep notes on my thoughts so), jokes aside, I’ve got a new DAC to play with that has been putting forth a very energetic signature, and i felt tonight would be a nice opportunity to try;
Streamer/ROON > (Nordost Tyr-2 USB) > Pasithea DAC > (via XLR) > Vinnie Rossi L2iSE (Svetlana 811-10’s) > BMR Philharmonitor towers.
The 811-10 is slightly dry in the midrange, crisp on the top end w/ less bite or bloom down low. The Pasithea is a nice compliment to the tube, There is an artist by the name of Sarah McCoy, who has 2 albums that I know of and enjoy. There are small details in her albums that i am becoming ever more familiar w/ and I enjoy listening for them when the gear is capable enough. I’m detecting fine details and that makes me happy.
I prefer my soundstage more “realistic”, i want to “see” the musicians well behind the speakers, (in the space they were in when the music was recorded,) behind the microphones and spread around the room (an honest assumption, but only an assumption that this is how they actually record music nowadays). Anyway, the stage is more forward between the speakers, it’s fun here but not realistic, nor my preference. Every other DAC i have in the house manages to put the center stage back closer to the wall, (like its supposed to be) this DAC just wants to bring it forward and closer to my face, let’s call this “fun”, like being in the very front row of a live performance.
This isn’t what I wanted to focus on tonight so I switched over to more BASS heavy music, Russian rap, club mixed Regge, American Rap, and some south American Rap. Ugh, I need volume, more of it and it’s too late in the evening to push the volume where it needs to be to make the speakers come alive. They like power, they play well with more volume. Low volume, low power dynamics is not gonna cut it here. It’s getting late and all i managed to figure out is that the speakers i got for high volume, powerful listening are exactly what they are made to be. They play clean, they extend low but late night listening at under 60db will not impress you, it’s not their forte. I’ll try this again during daytime hours and hopefully have more fun with the session. It goes to prove that the right combo of gear for the appropriate job goes a long way in your enjoyment and satisfaction. This combo requires you play at louder volumes to experience the performance capabilities. No low volume dynamics here, even w/ a DAC that seems to energize the low end a bit more sometimes you just gotta have the db’s cranking.
@MacDLaw , Just a heads up, I know for a fact this add is about to change and just the pair of speakers will become available for a pretty decent price, the owner also lives in Tampa and has a UPS Corprate account so shipping is reasonable cost and he has all the original, packaging for these speakers.
I also can vouch that the Exogal stack w/ BMR Philharmonic standmount sounded really great
I know sometimes the timing and funds don’t work out well but he may be able to ship to your country easier due to his location, Corprate UPS account and willingness to let the pair go before Christmas bills hit
Just a heads up is all.
Currently I dont have the funds
Actually I spent $1000 in assorted cables just 10 minutes ago
Also I dont have reputation on usaudiomart
I apreciate your recomendation for the philarmonic and also the heads up, maybe the next time I can catch these speakers
Shipping is difficult but it never hurts to be on the lookout
Plus I know this is a excellent recomendation, all of them have been until now.
