Nearfield Speakers

If you have the power to make them sing, ATCs are a good option for nearfield. I’m using the SCM20s now for nearfield.

If you have a sub, something like the Omega bookshelves might be decent as well. High sensitivity and one full range driver.

Another option would be boenicke W5. Part time audiophile has a review of them nearfield and pursuit perfect system also reviewed them nearfield.

Super Mon Mini is made for a desk but you definitely need to pair a sub with them.

Closer acoustics Ogy is another one that might pair really well with a sub.

One i’m not 100% sure about nearfield but I feel like it should work well would be the audionote ax-two.

Has anyone had ears on the devore micr/0?

Slowly ruling out larger speakers for the desktop and my focus/curiosity is on the micros at the moment. On paper they read like a linear harbeth P3, more energetic/engaging.

Side note is more energetic/engaging means more 3-5k?

Last picture before I move my setup away from this corner.

@SaberPunch I’m really impressed by these speakers. Finish, size, and sound are all great for the price. I like the presentation more on these vs the ATCs I had before. The ATCs were separation and timbre monsters. They also were painfully resolving especially when you played poorly recorded music. However, ATCs had this effortlessness to the presentation. Nothing was ever forced.

The Atalante 3s are quite neutral, no midbass bloat or anything. Great treble sparkle without being overboard. Great cohesiveness to the music. Nothing sticks out but vocals have a nice separation from the background. Wide soundstage and good imaging. Not quite as sharp as ATC and timbre isn’t as godly as the ATCs either but the whole package is better so far. I’ve only burned it in overnight so I still have some time to go before they’ve fully settled. First impressions are good though. I’m happy with the switch.

Nabbed some artnovian corner traps to try out on the desk to see if I can tame a 90-100 bump. These in particular are aimed at 50-80hz and doing their job but I think I need the artnovian ulysses panels which are 90-120hz. Just wanted to ensure I could make the corner traps work (audibly) before I considered buying anything.

The wellfloat a4 platforms are too big but they are soaking up all speaker vibrations. I’ve tried the various iso bases and iso acoustic pucks but all have let some form of vibration through to the desk until now.

Current nearfield setup. The only thing that might change is moving the desk a little further away from the windows and adding bass traps on that side. Overall, super happy with how everything is sounding with this setup and not looking to change anything anymore. Soundstage is wide, imaging is great, and vocals are effortless.

Are those still the Atlante 3s? If so, that logo looks really nice on the side, very beautiful speakers.

Looks great and similar corner/window setup to what I have.

How far off the back wall are the speakers?

Yep, been really liking them so far. Haven’t even felt the need to burn them in overnight.

19" from the wall

Yet another neat, well organized desk set-up. I feel like such a clutter monkey compared to you guys, i just can’t get past my hoarding ways…

Latest nearfield speakers…best nearfield experience I’ve had so far.

Such a great looking desk setup. Would be curious about your impressions of the sourcepoint 8s nearfield like that as they’ve been a pair I’ve been eyeing for my (small) room as well. Maybe we need to start a mofi thread? Either way congrats on the new speakers!

They are large but still fit very nicely on your desk, congratulations. I very much enjoyed the MoFi speakers when i first heard them. If you get bored of them on your desk use them as part of your HT set-up, i think they would be awesome TV speakers too :+1:

The reason I think they’re the best nearfield experience I’ve had is probably due to the 8" driver. I think there’s a tactility that no other smaller speaker I’ve heard and also dynamics, bass, vocal quality are all top notch. They don’t sound clinical and have a great weight to them. No need for a sub either. Honestly if you have the space to do what I’m doing, I would highly recommend them. If you have less space, my previous speakers, the revival audio atalante 3s are a great alternative.

I’m using some klipsch fortes as my TV speakers already

Here is how the current setup has settled so far, please ignore the messed up walls haha I’m wanting to redo all the walls in this room with drywall so I haven’t bothered fixing all the holes and screwed up bits.

I think they might be a little far apart, but can’t really do anything about that with this sized monitor lol I want to play around with toe in a bit more but I have found that they respond better to less than more, so I currently have a very conservative toe in applied.

I don’t see much discussion of the SuperMon Mini on this thread. I’m considering these as a desktop speaker: where they will be on either side of a computer monitor and about 1.5-2.5 feet away from me.

I understand that this distance is “too close” for even most nearfield monitors, but I have read good things of the Minis in this configuration. My (tube) amp is an LTA Ultralinear+ (20Wpc).

I wonder how this would compare to an Omega Compact Alnico or some LS3/5a speaker, for this use-case? I’d love other suggestions too. The only reason for considering the Omegas is that the UL+ is supposed to be better with more sensitive speakers.

I do plan to get a sub in any case, and of course proper isolation from the desk.

P.S. This is literally my first pair of audiophile speakers. I’ve always been a headphone person.

Do you guys think the rp600 is too big for a desktop? I sit 3ft away. The wall behind is 1ft away max.

I don’t know how easy it would be for you to snag a pair but I would try it. Worst case scenario you’d have to sell them but they’re a popular speaker so I’m sure they’d be easy to move.

Foot away from the wall depending on volume you may have to play with the port but I think it’s not too big to try and work it.

Not too big for a desktop, I used them as such a few times over a few years ago, just not my preference and they wound up with my TV in the bedroom where I enjoy them best. The room is large and they throw sound well and also image really nicely along with allowing for easy off center enjoyment. They are also very easy to power. :+1:

The Monoprice K-bass won me over for desktop use, incredible imaging and great sound. Also front ported so they can be as close to a wall as you want. I just prefered them overall, personal preference.

If you get the RP600M look for the vs2 they made a few decent upgrades in the crossover to smooth out the sound a bit better it seems. Happy listening whichever way you decide to go.

My rp600m ii and Svs PB 1000 pro sub are on the way  , this is a feeling move to get away from Headphones. If I could make this work without disturbing, the real conversion will begin. Do you guys think these measurement are ok? (speaker size is accurate btw, 4ft away from eachother)

Made few adjustments to my position and it came to this:

No room treatment yet, just thick curtain, thick rug, and some furniture. Will add later as needed. Like bass traps in the corners and diffusers behind the speakers (not sure what I’m doing lol just an idea).
