That was interesting to hear a story about a specific part of a particular song. The use of beat tracks here reminds me a little of how Captain Beefheart approached time signatures. Nice.

I really liked this one. The breakdown on how they physically made the recording as well as some of the equipment they used was great and deep detail all around.

Interesting topic. I liked the way he explained the ideas too.

Interestingly, where I live TV and cinema have subtitles almost as standard. Especially cinema where English language films get subtitles in two languages at once lol

I also hadn’t really thought about this as I put some decent active speakers and a dac on our tv a few years ago. I remember watching Tenet and thinking that is wasn’t nearly as bad as people seemed to be saying, now I know why!

This is a cool thread!

I’ve been doing some exploring of the origins of music, and I found this video.

To think… that so long ago, humans were making melodic instruments is fascinating.

I am someone reticent to post as it may be common knowledge and I’m the last person on the planet to “get” it.

Record players AKA today as analog or vinyl had speeds of 33 RPM 45 PRM and back in the early days of recordings 78 RPM.

What’s the realization? 33 + 45 = 78 and this fact just hit me today. :exploding_head:

Technically it’s 33 and 1/3, I suspect the fact that they picked 33 and 45 is coincidental.
It would have been based on the size of the record, the density they could reliably press and the desired run time of a record.

Why was the CD sampling rate 44.1KHz?
Short version they wanted to be able to put 1 hour of music on a disk.

I really enjoy content like this. Please excuse the hokey animation, the archival content is well worth it.

Super interesting opinion here making a case for something I have no care about one way or another yet it was a fascinating watch and well presented.

I watched this a couple of weeks ago and it was so good, I watched it again with my wife. If you’re a fan of Ska, you owe it to yourself!
