Here’s headphonesdotcom measurements:
I’m a bit confused about the driver in the Empyrean II. Is it the same as the driver in the Elite but tuned differently, or is it a whole new driver? I assume since it is replacing the OG Empyrean, the Elite will remain Meze’s flagship headphone.
This seems to be the case, also reflected in price points. Elite is $1k more
I believe Empyrean 2 has a new driver (different driver model number as well).
Elite is still their flagship from my understanding.
As a satisfied Elite owner, I’m not tempted by the Empy 2, but I do have my eye on those new Duo pads. I’ve really enjoyed the Angled Alcantara pads over either of the stock pad options with my Elite, so I’m always open to trying a newly developed pad from Meze. Many years of ZMF ownership has taught me that pads can often make a rather large difference in how a headphone sounds.
Maybe it’s me but I prefer the old graph measurements vs a new version going around now. Maybe it’s me?
New
Old
Definitely prefer the raw (old method).
Maybe I’m just old, or maybe I’m like ODB, but I like it raw.
Me too. I don’t understand why they’re pushing the new format. And if you say you don’t like it (as you did), they imply you have limited understanding and tell you to watch a YT video to learn how to read a graph.
This is going to sound extreme and oversimplified but because that’s how cults work. There’s a leader and agenda and anyone who isn’t following is educated on what they should do and believe in. Andrew (leader) is becoming similar to Amir as time goes by and having their headphonesdotcom own recognizable visualization and moving people towards accepting their measurements-heavy review approach (agenda) and explaining most things heard through the graph and sending you to videos (education) is the way.
I’m guessing they know where the buying power in the market is (probably entry level but in mass adoption) and judging by reddit and their forum and the content they produce etc they are doubling down on what keeps people spending or getting into the hobby
It’s always going to be business first (companies exist to make money), but this seems a little more personal based on Andrew’s responses.
It seems as though he really wants people to adopt his way as the standard. Moving away from Harman is indicative of that. I think the push back is mostly from enthusiasts that base their purchases on experience/preference rather than measuring to a standard (his, or any standard).
I like graphs as a preview of what something may sound like in a general way. My ears will always make the ultimate judgement for my preferences.
I was never a fan of dms, but I think he’s really matured as a reviewer and does a good job of conveying overall sound signatures.
(The 4:3 aspect ratio really annoys me since everyone is using a 16:9 display. It’s not cool, it’s annoying)
I like this version more, but I guess some like it differently on headphones.com so I’ll just get used to both lol
Good review, with needed comparisons on the last page
There is a review out from Currawong!
Added it to the Meze thread!
The hype train is real, every top views reviewer that got it said it destroys v1 and is even better than the elite
So it’s now a potentially competitive headphone with the rest of the market lol?
The moon audio review and zeos’ didn’t say it beats the Elite. The other reviews I watched didn’t even compare them.
It does seem as an improvement over the OG.
Hype train on original was misguided, probably the most comfortable headphone ever and definitely oozed luxury. Unfortunately it ended there for me, had the wonkiest soundstage and came across as a stagnant fart in a sealed room
Hope the Empy 2 fixed that.
I recently finished watching Resolve and Zeos Empyrean II review and I also heard it didn’t really beat the Elite, but it’s a more technical version of the OG Empyrean.
