MERASON thread, DAC1 Mk II / Reuss / Frérot

I would like to mention Beung a Merason
Dac1-MK2= owner , being in several audio clubs
Several own this dac also , a. Very good power cord to truly extract the extra bis of information
I use a AQ Tornado sourse. Power cord
And a tech replaced the cheap 50 cent fuses with Hifi tuning Supreme Silver gold
20mm, 3.15 amp T- slow blow
These is 2 right after the IEC inside
He was spot on give it 75; hours
Better in every respect including image focus
And a little bit faster on its feet
His explanation which too was measured is the stock fuse tinned brass, has 3 x less conductivity
Then silver ,which means too 3 x more resistance , metals conductivity index too confirms this a 18 vs a 65 , Try it before commenting it works !!

About a year and a half after starting my DAC comparison journey and the Six DAC Comparison thread over on Audiogon (link), I have settled in on two DACs in my main system, the tubed Aries Cerat Helene and the solid state Merason DAC1 MkII.

The AC Helene is so musical and rich sounding, and a really great DAC, but I don’t always have long listening sessions and don’t always want to turn it on and warm up the tubes. Therefore, much of my listening is through the Merason DAC1 MkII and while the sonic signatures are somewhat different between those two DACs, I do not feel like I am leaving much or anything on the table when I listen to the Merason. It too is so very musical and the smoothness, rich tone, and full bass are all characteristics that enhance my listening enjoyment. While I am sure there are subjectively “better” DACs out there for some listeners, IMO the Merason DAC1 MkII is an endgame DAC, at least based on the current state of the industry offerings.

Although I sold the unit I reviewed for the Six DAC Comparison thread, I was fortunate to pick up another MkII that had been upgraded from a Mk1. When Merason performed the upgrade they managed to put a small mark on the Plexiglas faceplate so they sent the original owner an additional aluminum faceplate, exactly like what is used on the latest factory MkIIs. I installed the aluminum faceplate and like the appearance of that better than the Plexiglas version, so I may have the only unit with the stainless steel chassis and an aluminum faceplate.

are you still using aes input? and if yes which cables are you using?
i’m using cheap cables right now and i feel like i would love a little more bite.

I am currently trying two different streamers and a reclocker (link) so I have been using various set-ups, including those using the USB input. I typically don’t go too wild on digital cables so for AES, I have a shorter (1M) TWL cable as well as a longer (2M) Gotham GAC 2 Ultra-Pro cable, and both sound pretty much the same to me. For S/PDIF, I have Oyaide 510 cables and a couple of longer (2M) cables including Belden Brilliance 1694A and Gotham GAC-1 10070, of which I sort of like the Oyaide and Belden cables slightly better, but still do not hear much difference.

For USB, I have a little more upscale options including Totaldac D1 Filter and Gigafilter cables, and a Network Acoustics muon USB cable. I find a greater sonic difference between different DACs and streamers than I do between competent digital cables.

I have a Reuss and I’m using a Snake River Takshaka from my Lumin U2 and I really enjoy it.

Out of touch/date, but didn’t realize there’s 2 new (to me) Merason dacs, the DAC2 and the Mountain dac, wonder how they will be, if anyone here ends up getting a listen at one point, would be curious what you think of it
