LTA thread, MZ2 / MZ3 / Z10 / Z40 / Ultralinear

@orrman did your LTA amp get better with the susvara over time? It seems like the z10e just needed some burn-in to sound really good with the susvara

mine wasn’t new so hard to say if it had anything to do with burn-in. It definitely needs a few hours to warm up to sound its best.
I rolled tubes and upgraded the cables and am using it only with the speakers taps so can’t say for certain if one factor did more than anything else.

Are you using the headphone out? The z10e has a marginally stronger output than the z40+ through the headphone out (3 vs 2.6w to 32ohm) that I doubt makes the difference but maybe…

Excited for you, looking forward to some good comparisons given that you lived with the MZ2 for a good long while.

Hearing those clicks when changing the volume is worth it already…

How did I miss that you have a MZ3?!

Used to :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

FWIW, it’s an awesome amp. Crazy for 1watt. Blackest background. Only reason I moved on was for a different signature/little more tube with some additional weight.

I want one and have zero reasons to own it lol

Few days in with the Z10 and so far I’m impressed. I enjoy low level listening sessions and the Z10 has elevated my listening experience. Right off the bat, there’s just more weight to the sound vs the MZ2. It has that magic sound just like the MZ2. I’m really enjoying whatever “live” albums I have at the moment. Center image seems wider as I can sit slightly off center and the speakers still disappears. One of the things I wanted from the upgrade is to have a bit more bass presence and I feel I am getting that. Just some quick thoughts so far. Definitely will spend some more time and enjoy it.

Good to know! I’m tempted to open up mine and see what’s installed. It sounds good atm so I’m wondering if the previous owner changed them to something else.

Tried the HP out, Auteur is sounding nice. Now I need either a new rack so I can move the dac/amp closer to my listening chair or get a longer cable for the HP.

After seeing @ericg Z10 integrated with an external LPS+ and talking to him about it being an upgrade I reached out to LTA to learn if that’s something that’s available and needed for the Z40. I assume their answer is also relevant for the UL and sharing here for reference:

The power supply in the Z40+ is a different, higher quality power supply than the one in the Z10. There is no upgrade available, as it’s already a world-class power supply. So, rest easy that you’ve got the best already!

Good to know that all owners are covered in one way or another and the response was immediate.

Mods for my UL.

One complaint about the LTA the damned display is WAY too bright, they know it and they’ve gotten feedback about it. I wanted to come up with a suitable fix for it as where I sit, the display is at eye level and the holes align the LED up where it project the most amount of light. Even at the dimmest setting it’s still WAY too bright.

The other mod, blue input LED so it matches the blue LED on the Mojo and the blue LED on the dCS.

Cost, about $8.00 and a half hour of labor. A dark film to cover the volume array and a blue film to cover the input LED array.

Just as a fyi, on new LTA gear you can dim the display from the remote but also just have it turn off with a time out, or at least you could with the mz3, if you don’t mind it being off lol

Edit: I’m stupid, didn’t read the last sentence lol, I’m surprised it’s too much even on the lowest setting, although it is bright regardless
