Hopefully will be good, to be honest even having one of these boxes made for me custom with higher quality resistors and parts, they’ve never sounded better than a simple spade to 4 pin cable in most cases. Maybe if you have an amp that’s super sensitive to specific loads or really high impedance cans is worth it, or a really noisy amp, but otherwise I’d just go the direct cable route and be careful with volume and you’ll end up with a better sounding result

This is the primary reason to do it, it’s largely irrelevant for Class A or Class B amps with SS output sections.

The other reason is if your amp has a stepped attenuator and it won’t give you enough resolution, or just using the bottom of the volume dial annoys you.
Both my amps have them switchable on the output, and I’ve also built impedance matchers/volume dividers into cables. They are pretty much always audible, though not enough to stop me using them when it makes sense.

It can also drop the noise floor, though less than you might think, they are effectively volume scalers on the output, so they reduce the noide the amp adds in addition to just the signal level. Where as Standard volume controls are on the input, so they only scale the input signal, not any noise the amp adds.

The Tube amp sounds quite different with it switched in (though it isn’t night and day even there, and it’s significantly changing the load), the Hybrid it just pretty much makes it quieter (I probably still have a slight preference for it not being in the circuit), I use it for the Utopia/Mysphere to get a few more usable clicks on the attenuator.

For the Mojo Mystique owners…

I dont know how i feel about silver things and audio as it always seems to not fit my tastes, but this may be worth it for some.

Excuse the screenshot of an email

Just got an email on it about an hour ago. I’m still on the philosophical side of great sound from a server not needing to cost $24k if you don’t start out with a noisy PC in the first place.

That said, now that I’ve spent quite a bit of time and not an insubstantial amount of money, but less than $1k, I’m surprised how much improvement in sound I’ve gotten by optimizing my PC as the source for my desktop chain.

Yes, but does it reach Linux’s max RAM of a whopping 32gb?!

A BF3. A bit of a departure from the BF2 many of us started on (and i still have at my pc).

Schiit’s Bifrost 3 goes Mesh, gains Forkbeard and sheds $100 | Darko.Audio https://share.google/xnglrlqmwo2142221

Bet it doesn’t beat the OG BF2

The ZMF/L0rdGwyn Airmid OTL tube amp collab launches Friday, with an intro pricing discount of $2,699 from the $2,999 regular price. Zach is offering the Schiit Imp through their store as well, and the first 20 Airmids get the Imp included at no extra charge. ZMF will sell the Imp as a $99 add-on for anyone who wants it, which is Schiit’s regular price.

Like the Aegis, the Airmid is manufactured by Cayin, and built to Keenan’s (L0rdgwyn) specifications.

I really can’t afford this and don’t have the room for it, but I really want it! Are you buying one on Friday?

My favorite ZMF is the Verite Open, and the Airmid is supposed to have pretty special synergy with this particular headphone. My VO already sounds amazing on my Aegis, so I’m trying to resist the Airmid, but it’s hard!

I want one, but I can’t afford it right now! Did you see Zach is offering a bundle price of the amp with a Burmese Padauk VO for $1,500? Only if purchased together.

That’s nuts, and I’ve heard from several people that the VO + Airmid is the best they’ve ever heard a Verite Open, on any amp.

You and I both have a VO (African Blackwood for me), but that’s a great price for the headphone new, that’s about what used ones are going for.

Anyway, I would love to have an Airmid, but it will have to wait.

As an aside, did you see the comment he made that he’s working on a dynamic driver ā€œbass monsterā€, a bit delayed but slated for sometime next year? IDK what it will be like, but I could see it being a launch day order for me!

I would be very curious where it slots in vs Atrium Closed, or Eikon, which is the OG bass cannon. A ZMF Draupnir?

I did see the mention of the upcoming bass-head dynamic. I already have an Atrium Closed, and I use the Caldera Suede (Top and Side Perforated) pads with them to tame the bass a bit. I get a little fatigued with the stock Caldera Lambskin Thin pads, so I guess I’m no bass head! I’m always interested in anything Zach brings to market, so I’m sure they’ll be good.

I have tons of tubes that I use with my Aegis that will also work with the Airmid, so that isn’t helping my willpower to resist a day 1 purchase. The free Schiit Imp for the first 20 purchasers is tempting me as well!

Lots of new DACs, Lampizator Horizon 2 is now out with SuperVolume

So,… Did you? Order one that is?

I put one in my cart just with Imp and the tube upgrade, just to ā€œseeā€ā€¦ I didn’t pull the trigger, though it was very tempting!

I would love to hear Verite on it, or really any of my ZMF dynamics on it. And Utopia for that matter! I bet the Utopia would sound really good on Airmid.
