If you could only have one (Headphone)

I do have a soft spot for the TH909 - it is super impressive and underrated IMO. I did sell the one I had but only because I’m confident that I can get another easily enough.

If its just at home with correct amping, my hd6xx. So comfy, I had it forever, and it never offended me. I can spend the rest of my listening hours with it on a bhc if forced.

Since I like headphones for travel I think my Radiance is a default winner though. Closed and easy to drive for the road, and just agreeable on most set ups.

If I had to pick one to replace my current 2ch setup, it would likely be Susvara from the short demo I had of it. It fits my listening tastes and use cases the most. It would also allow me to transfer over my main chain as well.

If the chain wasn’t a factor and I had to sell everything, I’d likely go with Infinity MK2 + P6P or try the Traillii for a better all-rounder. Headphones don’t really do it for me, especially with comfort.

Now that would be interesting

A “one chain to rule them all at 3 price points” would be kinda cool too tbh. Say, 1k, 5k, unlimited? My choices would all be boring though :joy:

Would that still count as 1 headphone? LOL

Unlimited? Cal it the “Saudi Prince” chain? Lol. That could get crazy.

I do like this idea. I do a form of it in my head for fun. What is the best I could do for under xxx?

I mean, I’ve heard some real expensive POSs. I wouldn’t be comfortable pussing anything in my forverr chain I havent owned tbh

I agree! I extend that to people I’ve known for a long time who has listened to many of the same components I have, and we have compared notes in the past.

Once I share a common language and a set of givens with someone, I can find their description useful.

The good old dt880 with stock and dekoni suede pads.

Cant get enough of that airy open sound with its stock tuning.

Suede pads let me listen for longer sessions while still satisfying my wants when stock tuning is too much.

Havent been able to find anything to replace them yet.

I sometimes think about selling all the other headphones in the stable and replacing them with better dacs and amps.

This is why I sold all but the LA900 PH. The cups were on the way and if they weren’t, the TH909’s would have stayed and the stock TH900’s would have went. Now I just need a better DAC…

Probably the one I’d keep is the “least best” of mine - Elegia. Closed back so I can shut the world out and easy to drive so in a pinch my phone will do.

I shut the world out by cranking the volume. :grin:jk

I think the Gjallarhorn GH50 OG is my goldilocks so far.

I take this back, It would 100% be the VC if I could only pick one haha… i love this headphone too much :joy:

Would it be too facile to say that my favorite headphone is the one you’re listening to at the moment?

That’s not the point of this thread!

It’s a very tough choice w/ headphones they each have particular characteristics. For most of my relaxing listening I’m torn between my Grado PS2000e and my ATH AWKT.

For general purpose my ZMF Auteur

When I want to test out equipment I like to go to my Senn HD800s.

And then there is everything in between :joy:

You sir, are exempt from the question. That I knew from the start. The Sultan of Speakers, the Duke of DACs, the Highlord of Headphones!
