Had not seen these speakers ever and now I’ve run into a reference for them twice in two days! They say they’re available as kits did you buy yours as a kit of fully assembled?

With the new iOS device finally switching to USB-C the ifi C to A adapter works very well and it doesn’t break the bank.

I’m pretty sure their iOS devices are still lightning though…

Boo-Hiss! I have a one and a half year old iPad Pro that’s USB-C did they not switch the new iPhones over yet?

iPhones are still lightning. I don’t mind getting a lightning to USBC cable but apparently that’s not enough for the Questyle to run and it needs the adapter as well

Nope! They are stubborn
Only their iphones and airpods are lightning…

Mutherfuckers should burn in hell.

I have the iPhone camera adapter I bought from Apple. Was trying to get my wife to use it with a Dragonfly I had laying around and a pair of Koss, she said, it sounds great but it was too much “stuff”.

Yep and I tend to agree. Even though I prioritize audio quality (obviously being here…) I’m not willing to sacrifice convenience in my portable setup. If it’s not going to be simple I’ll stick with Airpods.

I use a Mojo2 with my iPhone, but I’ve used a Dragonfly Cobalt in the past (I liked that pairing with Porta Pros).

I’ve sold the DFC but I’ve heard good things regarding the L&P W2.

I use the Woo Audio Lightning to USB-C adapter (works fine, no issues). That was a @Hazi59 recommendation.

I’m actually considering that W2 for iPad use. L&P also make a fancy Lightning adapter.

If it helps, the case for the L&P W2 is magnetic, so you can use a magnet to stick the W2 to the back of your phone:

(The Lightning-to-USB cable pictured is the Woo Audio cable that ValentineLuke linked to above. Also, I didn’t make this super-clear, but the case comes with that adhesive flat magnet included.)

I bought mine as a kit and also replaced the woofer with the new textreme woofers. Pretty easy build since cabinet and crossover was already assembled. I’m looking to upgrade mine just to see what else is out there if you’re interested. I’m actually not sure I’ll find something better but always curious to try new things.

And yeah, Andrew from MusicTeck said that iPhones will only put out so much power. I’ve never had any problems with the IEMs that I’m usually running, but your mileage may vary:

What are the general preamp recommendations? Something that has both XLR/RCA outputs and inputs.

Budget?

To go with what?, and how much are you willing to spend?
My 2c is you want to spend similar amounts on the pre as the power amp.
Active pre’s can be a big win, BUT they need to be well matched to the Power section and generally good ones are on the expensive side. It’s usually safer to use the same manufacturer as the power amps if you can’t hear an option.

My power amps were $3k but I’d ideally like to spend less

AVA DVA M225s

Edit: not trying to sound demanding or anything. I was just wondering if you guys had preamps that you would recommend or had good experiences with.

Have you heard the Van Alstine preamps?
I’d start there, you at least have some idea they probably have good synergy.

I haven’t but I’ve definitely considered. I think he said he’ll release one with XLR outputs to match the m225 so I was kind of waiting for that one. Or else I’ll get the convertor that he has.

Edit: I’m using a bel canto pre3 cause I found it at a good price but I’m willing to look at better options. My amps are differential so having an XLR output would be preferred. I wanted to try an AVC but those don’t pop up too often. I feel like besides publication reviews of preamps, there isn’t as much information compared to things like speakers, headphones, etc.

A lot of people just buy from the same brand or at the more expensive end tend to rely on dealer recommendations.
I run a vintage Melos pre amp on my 2Ch (wasn’t vintage when I bought it) but I kind of lucked into it, it was available locally, and I needed something to replace the passive pre I was using at the time.
