Usb-c output from phone to usb-c input on SMSL, outputting coaxial output to Mousai coax input.
Problem is simply that the phone doesn’t seem to be powering the SMSL device. They do claim that it works with Android devices, do I didn’t anticipate an issue. I did all this to circumvent potential issues I might have with USB functionality on older DAC (works fine) and hoping that coaxial would be a sonic improvement. All in a small cheap form factor.
Not sure if there is anything I can do to make it work as intended, or I had an incorrect expectation. I should reach to SMSL.
Hmm, okay, then you might be right.
It’s a shame of course because what would actually happen apart from it sucking the power out of the smartphone or tablet?
Thought it might be connected incorrectly, which can happen.
That’s the bit that’s ambiguous about Chinese products.
I thought they used to say it was only for Android or IOS.
I find that very annoying even in the instructions it says it’s compatible and then in the end it’s not.Sometimes there’s no indication either.
Now I am rigorous and send it back to them.
It was similar with the Hidiz Ap80 pro, I wrote to support before I bought it to ask if it was possible, yes, no problem, and then I connected the iPad and nothing worked when it arrived.
I think they should be much clearer when they release a product or at least say something when you write to them.
In the Us or Eu support, this is usually never a problem.
But by the way, how good is the Mousai Msd192?
Are you satisfied with it?
Question for @M0N. I dont think you had a ton of time with these two dacs but would you guess the emm dac2x V2 and d1-dual would be on similar texhnical levels? Tbh ive wanted totaldac for a while but i seriously cant get the memory of ma3 → aic out of my head
Then go with emm/meitner, you’ve already heard it, you already really enjoy it, they are more easily attainable, just makes more sense at this point to ignore the totaldac, you aren’t getting a lesser option by going with a ma3/dac2x v2. The dac2x v2 would be a step above the dual from memory, likely more at or slightly above a d1-single mk2 + live power I’d recon but again limited listening time with the emm stuff.
Ok. Thats kinda how ive been leaning as well. It just tough cause the decriptions i read of totaldac realy stand out to me as what i actualy want but the ma3 realy did blow me away so ive been torn.
Just go for the EMM (and tell us how it is lol), considering how good of value they are used, I feel like you’d have a hard time beating that for the price if you like what it has to offer
TIL a used NS1 is <3k. That works. I had in my mind they were like 7k+ used for some reason. And make sense on waiting as well. Just wanst sure if the usb on a 2012 based dac would be super dog shit tbh
Not like I could remember for that specific dac, but I wouldn’t imagine it to be considering the tier of performance it offered. I would have worried more if it was like a early 2000s or late 90s dac or a more budget dac from the time
And the NS1 has the proprietary “Optilink” connection for EMM DAC’s.
I’ll sell you mine for what I paid for it, I like it a lot, but I’d rather have something with USB out for my current system.
I may well take you up on that. Need to sell some gear first though. Bought another car recently that realy has me tapped on on ay money and been dumb bad about bumping listsing to sell my current gear…
So here’s a simple one - I’ve been testing Mojo 2 VS my Gumby+3XP, and M2 is smoother and less fatiguing(treble, and less strong/jarring bass) in every case. Surely there are some significantly smoother amp(s) worth trying under $1K?
Valhalla? Lyr3/3+?
L30? MLP?
(G111 - was not a fan of this one; too soft & mushy)
