The Exogal presents a deeper soundstage front to back in my 2 channel. I’m not sure how to better describe that. The sense of depth and separation in the music is just more pronounced which also gives a sense of “more detail” I’m sorry but I’m not a great reviewer nor do I have the experience to really give a proper audiophile breakdown.
I enjoy both immensely and am still undecided on which DAC I prefer on which combo of equipment, and I can’t in all honesty say I have a preference for one DAC over the other for any lack of performance on either.
I like the way my Amber 3 performs enough that it maintains its place in my main system almost exclusively. The Commet is smaller and easier to move around in my other systems and I have the matching ION amplifier so it sees allot more use on my desktop as a full system package and in my near field room to test amps and speakers.
I can’t say one DAC is better than the other they just affect the sound slightly differently. If ever in Virginia you can come and test both side by side with a variety of speakers and amps.
Just bumping this question. It kinda seems like my only 3 options for dacs that actually fit my lifestyle around the price of an amber3/s3 used are:
Exogal Comet Plus
Sonnet Morpheus
Xi Sarga
Would anyone be able to give me a quick run down between the three? I would likely get something like an SU-2 KTE (or similar) for any of the 3 and they will be used with a 13R-> sus pretty predominantly FWIW
Edit: I can also get a QB-9 Twenty which I litteraly just found out about but idk if the upgrade program even still exists
Looking to remove my THX 789 from my desk. Want to connect it to a laptop in an alternate location. However, I need to find a balanced dac to pair with it. The Dac also needs to have usb to connect to the laptop.
I’d personally look toward either a schiit modius for something a bit more warmer relaxed and chill, or a geshelli jnog2 with the usb module for something a bit more clean and technical while still being reasonably organic, both those sound great for the money and should serve you well imo
I was thinking of geting an amp for around 500$
I’ve been thinking of getting the Rupert neve ore a limetree headphone amp ore the limetree networkplayer 2. I will be using them whit a pair of LCD XC.
The reason I’m thinking of the network player one is because I might be able to get it for 400$ .
anyone with experience with the felix euphoria 2018? One on headfi for 1500 usd right now and im pretty tempted but dont know jack about it. IIRC its OTL but i keep seeing a ton of reviews loving it with d8k, utopia, and even sus so im confused
Hello,
I have a Feliks Euforia at home since the beginning of the year.
What specifically do you want to know?
He’s mostly okay, I like to listen to him.
There are a few things I don’t like about it, but I’ve been able to compensate a bit.
For $1600 I think the asking price is a bit high.
Because you can have it new without the stock tubes for a similar price.
So it depends on what other tubes the seller mainly offers.
If you don’t plan to use it with planar headphones, it’s quite good.
It should still work with the Lcd 2 and X.
It won’t work with an Aeon.
Very interesting I see elises selling for 1400-1500 almost instantly so I figured 1500 (said 1600 initially, sorry) for the next one up was solid. Tbh idk if I have much that will play well with it currently. I think just hd800s and maybe utopia and d8kp. I dont have anything high impednece besides hd800s so if its not a great deal maybe I should pass?
Mind if I ask what you dont like? I haven’t considered the elise because I’m not a fan of the gooey sound in general but my reason on the euphoria seems to say uts a lot less gooey.
The Elise has a little less power and plays a little warmer than the Euforia, but the Euforia has a little more power and plays more detailed than the Elise.
With the HD 800 and the other headphones, both amplifiers should be good enough.
I would still go for the Euforia if I had to.
But I wouldn’t buy it with the standard tubes.
For me, with planar headphones, it was too neutral and not rousing enough. And it lacked a bit of bass.
The Linlai 6sn7 tubes are definitely worth it with the 6080 Mullards or Sylvania.
And better than the standard tubes.
The 6As7G tubes tend to mask details and the Ps Vane tubes don’t do it for me.
They tend to play a little weaker and a little better, which I don’t like.
So it’s a bit inconsistent.
Apart from that, I have achieved much better results with the Lcd 2 and the Linlai tubes.
There was more pressure in the bass range and the overall sound was warmer than with the Ps Vane, even with other headphones.
With this offer it depends on the tubes that are included and their condition.
Otherwise 1400-1300$ without tubes would be a fair price.
But otherwise the Euforia reacts quite well to tube changes.
So it’s really not bad.
I think it’s a bit of a shame that the rarity of certain tubes can make them scarce or very expensive.
The 6080 Mullards can be bought for around 200-300$.
And the Sylvania for 50-60$ and are hardly worse than the Mullards.
However, they are both very reasonably priced.
Because there is a shortage, it is a pity that there are hardly any good alternatives for the 6as7g tube socket.
Even if there are certain mods with adapters that you can go to the KT x tubes.
I find that a pity with the amplifier because the construction and workmanship is otherwise very good.
You can find more information under Headfi Forum if you need more opinions.
As I understand it, the Crimson is the SE hybrid amp that Cavalli based the Liquid Platinum on.
Though from people who’ve heard it, it’s superior to the MLP, which will be down to quality of PSU and parts.
I’m a fan of the Cavalli amps, Crimson are supposed to be quite good, a step below the Liquid Gold, but I haven’t heard one in person.
Does anyone have experience with the PowerPlant 3?
I’m still learning, so I don’t know that much about how power works, but the PowerPlant 3 has a switch for two of the outputs to turn off the regeneration and instead make them high current. I guess I’m concerned that maybe my amp will need the current and won’t get the benefits of the regeneration, but I’m still in the research phase at the moment, so I don’t really know.
For a headphone setup leave it on regen, you don’t need high current. If you were running a 2ch setup with a really beefy amp you might want to use high current, but for the headphone setup you are running you would want regen and wouldn’t be stressing the p3
It’s 300W continuous, I run a WA33 and a Lampizator pacific off it, both of which are on the high end of power consumption for anything headphone, and the light is “blue”, which is <280W according to the manual.
Speaker gear it might be an issue, if you have something powerful.
