The stat amps is good but I question it’s value a bit and think other amps might offer a bit better value, but it’s not lacking in comparison to other amps in that rough range ish
Yes it’s weird. The dynamics is the biggest problem to me though there, makes it sound pretty boring and lifeless even though it has other great aspects like resolution, control, and transients. Also treble does get a fair bit hot as well which does bother me personally with everything that hasn’t been a 007.
Lol well ignoring the focal comment yes the bhse is fairly narrow imo, but I do think it has solid depth. I find the mjolnir stuff wide but it lacks depth and natural placement in comparison
Can’t really say since I haven’t heard it with that, but I might be worried about bass prominence and impact, and it also might get a bit too forward in the mids. Not sure though, I’d likely want to go for a higher end amp though tbh
Thats fair. It is like 7k which is more than even BHSE. Hell you are getting somewhat close to a T20 build/3SE (not elite obv) at that point even.
Interesting on the trebble. Ive only heard BHSE on some NOS tubes that IDR what they are and trebble hotness wasnt something I ran into. I’ll have to ask what they are exactly so I have better frame of refrence.
I wasnt sammy kershaw to sing into my ear not lick my damn ear drums. But realy, I think this is a tube thing. Vocals were absurdly intimate on the BHSE I have access to.
Fair enough. TBH the reason I keep asking so much is that it seems like if I’m considering an AIC-10 or similar for sus/1266 I’m just realy not too far off of a Sr + 5-7k amp (Z10E, BHSE, any of the KG stuff, base 3SE etc) given the quotes ive been given on the HPs alone.
True, but honestly that’s still something I’d have to think about, I’d legit have to sit down and think if I’d rather take the sr + like a bhse or something similar vs a susvara + aic 10 or something similar, and honestly I might go with the susvara. But this is dependent on how I feel lol
TBH its not really that I think the shang would just be outright better at that price but instead that it may allow for higher scaling in the future and at least wont just outright loose now. Ultimately I doubt I will go that way simply because finding a demo is kicking my ass, but its at least a valid idea to entertain as far as I can tell
Alright, dipped my toes into TOTL headphones but I think I’m going to sell the d8000 because it just isn’t comfortable enough for me… with that said, I will probably be looking to upgrade my sources soonish. Currently rocking a v200 and 1321.
I am pretty keen on another r2r dac, so I was looking at something like a denafrips pontus or holo spring 3. (would need to save a bit more to purchase either of these cause they are priceyyyyy). Not entirely sure what amp I should pair with them if I do decide to go this route though… but I would probably prefer an amp with a similar sound sig to the v200 if possible. Would a v280 or v281 be an upgrade or a side-grade? Also I am trying to finally have a balanced signal because I think I finally have some headphones that would actually benefit from it now lol.
I am all ears to any recommendations amp or dac wise since I am really not too familiar with too many brands or sources tbh. Other than watching some reviews here and there, I don’t have a lot of experience in this department. I guess some more descriptors of what I like would help for recommendations as well - I generally like good macro dynamics / bass extension and generally rather smooth as the majority of the music I listen to probably benefits from these things. In order of genres it’s probably something like hip-hop > EDM > math rock / alt rock > metal > pop > everything else
V280/V281 are definitely steps up from the V200. I’ve owned all three, but sold the V281 when I moved hard to mostly portable. I now also have a 1321/V200 stack, but have been tempted of late to snag one of the V281s that have popped up at decent prices.
IMO, the biggest differences moving up are an overall refinement, coming a bit toward neutral, depth and separation, and there’s better grip and control in the bass region. The V281 just takes everything a touch farther than the V280 and adds some functionality as well.
I currently have both a V281 and V550, and I have had a V200.

And that the move up to the 550 from the 281 follows inline with the above moving everything forward another level.
I know a guy… who is waiting until he’s auditioned one more headphone on his current list - that will be looking to find a new home for his v281 and most likely Soekris 1541 DAC. I’d expect to see those as a subject for WTS near the end of the month.
Thoughts on 13r synergy with P6P as the DAC? Tbh I’m not exactly super blown away by the detail here and I’m wondering if its sus break in or if 13r jjst doesn’t have fantastic detail. Its probabaly only on the same level as d8kp on 428 if not a bit lower which u find a little suspect

If you are after mostly detail the 13r isn’t that impressive, it’s strengths lie more in things like coherency, timbre, presentation of dynamics, overall stage space, and liquidity, focusing a bit more fun. But if you want ultimate speed and separation, control, and resolution there’s better out there
I’d personally find the 13r to lean too far into warm and rich with a P6 (not tested with a p6p), and it’s also not that great since you can’t take full advantage of the dac in the p6/p6p since it’s not balanced. Do you have any other dacs around to test with? It should have more resolution than a d8kp on a 248, but it’s also not going to be the priority as previously mentioned either
Yah, this is why I was a bit confused tbh. I didn’t figure it would ve the end word in resolution but I feel like I’m missing stuff as is. Ill give both sus more time and wait on my cable until I make a final call but I realy dont think im getting the resolution the amp should have.
Hahaha. Ive been slacking on my dac game cause of the space it takes up. Only reason I even still have sp1k or bf2 tbh is cause I’ve been too lazy to sell. Plus ima get to go play with an aic-10 in a couple weeks so I kinda want to decide if ima buy that before I look more into dacs
