General IEM/In Ear Disussion & Help Thread

The HiBy R8ii have a class A/B mode with Turbo mode that might be able to help what you are looking for. But honestly if you want better transient response, I think a dedicated amplifier serve a better purpose and you can take that amp with you when you upgrade to another DAP.

@SaberPunch the LPGT2 has a proprietary method called the LTTP for lossless wireless transmission. That should enable you to stream music!

Not sure if it is a Roon end-point yet but Lotoo is working on it. If possible, please reach out to MusicTeck and they should be able to answer your questions.

What streaming services do you use?

I don’t use roon, I use LMS/squeeze instead. They use an app called “Squeeze Player” so I can play music from my server to my DAP as the output. That way when I can keep my playlist consistent on both my DAP and server. Only problem is that it’s an android and IOS app. I don’t know if there is a way to install on non-android devices.

For streaming services, I use Qobuz and Spotify. Spotify for some really niche stuff and Qobuz for everything else.

I heard about the LTTP but read mixed reviews on it. The overall consensus seem to be it’s pretty good and convenient, but you get the best sound quality playing music directly from the DAP. Plus you are burning both batteries from your phone and DAP, and my phone tends to get low battery pretty quickly from playing music which is why I moved to a DAP in the first place.

This does complicate things a bit. I am not sure if the app allows for connecting with other devices over a wireless protocol

For those, I think the LTTP does work well!

In my experience, no Android based DAP sounds as matured and refined as Lotoo or LP players. With Android I am also never really sure if the audio playing is bit perfect or not. That is one of the reasons why the implementation of LTTP seems to be bypassing all the issues associated with Android: bit perfect, OS getting outdated and the player running slow in the long term etc.
From the few people I spoke with that got to try the LTTP from Apple Music and Qobuz specifically, they feel that the sound quality is nearly identical to playing the same file if it were stored on an SD card. The same folks are also not going to look back at any Android based DAPs anymore. This is personal preference though at the end of the day! As far as I see it, any kind of streaming service has its own issues to deal with and there is no clear winner for me unfortunately.

I do however agree with you that burning batteries is surely a hurdle. For this purpose, I’ve decided that having an iPad mini solves the problem for me. But it is again about yet another device and complicating the setup. But you and I already know that in this hobby, convenience and sound quality rarely shake hands and agree with each other!

Sorry for not being able to provide any concrete outcome!

That’s true, but there are android apps that bypass those issues and is able to play bit perfect like HiBy Music App and USB Audio Pro Player. It is also true on OS becoming obsolete but I think by the time it get obsolete, the newer gen models are hopefully better than the old. I treat a DAP like a phone and it is something I always upgrade from time to time. Plus you still got to be worry about battery degradation in the long run.

That’s good to hear. At least sound quality won’t be an issue if I do go down that route.

That’s not a bad idea actually. But that’s additional funding on top of the $3K+ MSRP price tag.

I do probably want to own a Lotoo product again sometime in the future. I’ll play the long waiting game and wait for the used price tag to drop down further which is usually a year or 2 for DAP.

Very true about the battery degradation! I would like to add something specifically about Lotoo DAPs and their batteries. They have held up really well for a lot of people. Twister6 also spoke about how he has been using the LPGT for about 6 years now and still essentially gets the same amount of battery life. I’ve heard similar stories from PAW 6000 owners as well!

Yep, as music enthusiasts, we end up coming back to sound quality in one way or another!

Yes, that is additional funding required. I was able to trade in an old phone and put in additional cash to get an older refurbished iPad mini to reduce as much cost as possible. But it is still another investment required from our side.

I’m holding on to LPGT for now and using plain old usb cables when I am streaming. I mostly listen to music at home anyways so that helps. As Lotoo continues to integrate LTTP into their other products, I would be interested to see what they come up with next. I’m really hoping to see a successor to the PAW6000 that has LTTP functionality around the 1200 USD price mark. They have updated their flagship so it makes sense that would probably update the PAW6000. I say that because last time, LPGT arrived first and then the PAW6000. So perhaps this time as well, the sequence will be the same. Till then, it’s as you said, playing the long waiting game. There are occasional listings on the LPGT2 that pop up for around 2600 USD. Maybe in a year the prices will drop a bit!

I like to think of audio and luxury cars of some thing in common. 1 aspect I like to think is their newest innovations/technology will be injected into their TOTL. Then after some years, they trickle down that new innovation/technology into their more affordable line as the years go by. Lotoo came out with the Mjonir a think a year or 2 back, and injected some of that new technology to the LPGT TI successor which pretty much is the GT2. It make sense to do an updated PAW6000 unless Lotoo is going to something so left fielded.

Lotoo specified that they will be bringing LTTP to every Lotoo product from now onwards. I believe lack of streaming options was the biggest feedback for Lotoo engineers. So they have found a novel and neat solution in my opinion.
This keeps the Lotoo OS really slick and light weight. Which means more processing power for their awesome DSP and PMEQ.
No need to worry about Android’s sample rate and go down a rabbit hole which none of us need to at the first place.

So I really hope we see more affordable products from them that look to solve the lossless streaming conundrum!

I didn’t rate MEST mk II, kinda warm but hollow. Cadenza 12 (2024 edition) is my favourite. I wrote a review: https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/letshuoer-cadenza-12-2024.27770/reviews#review-38676

May be tricky to find a used set for $1000 but I’ve haven’t been paying attention to the IEM market since going back to headphones. They reliably sold for $1200-1700 a year ago.
