I saw one listed for $1.1k a few weeks ago, was going to sleep on it and that was a dumb ass move. It sold overnight….
If it’s built like the M1, then it’s built like a brick shit house!

What is the difference between the M1 and MC1? There seems to be a significant price difference if one is consumer and the latter is studio, same dac chip, same specs. Why would one spent an extra $3-$4k for the M1?
Someone else can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure the major differences between the “pro” and “consumer” M1 dacs are…
M1
Has 15 filters to choose from
Has pre-amp capabilities
Has a display
The MDx processor built in (if you were to buy one new today).
MC1
Basically none of the above, and only has 2 or 3 filters to choose from.
You can get a new MC1 and upgrade it with the MDx processor and still have paid less than what a new M1 costs, but you do lose out on the features mentioned above. MC1 is definitely the better value since (at least to me) a lot of the features I mentioned above aren’t that important, and most people paying this much for a DAC probably have a dedicated preamp. I’m also not 100% sure that the MC1 doesn’t come with the MDx processor if you were to buy a new one today, but if it does then that just makes the MC1 an even better value. And since the M1 and MC1 are so similar internally, you probably aren’t losing out on much performance (if any) between the two DACs.
MC1 comes with the MDx as standard as of 2020 or whenever it was that the MDx was released. As for the other points you are correct.
