Very little. You can tell if you look closely, but much better than aptx-LL. It’s easy for me to ignore. And if you have a nicer TV or steamer than I do, there’s options for video delay to match audio sync issues.
Yes, i know many TVs have that option which is good, but if its like the tv i have its not the best. Working in streaming makes you over sensitive to that stuff. Its why i wish there was a streamer that had the hdmi arc inputs that should sync well, but they reserve them for the full 1 box solutions a la naim uniti atoms etc.
When should your BHC land? Its been my most used amp outside my pc setup.
I didn’t realize streaming made it even more sensitive to sync issues. In the end, the sound quality is so much better for me, I really don’t mind the small sync issue. It’s so much better than aptx-LL (which I had gotten used to previously) I really don’t even see it any more.
sigh… it’ll get here soon, but contrary to the enthusiasm I showed to getting my listening space ready for it, it’s going to be a “Christmas present” from my wife. There was some negotiating that had to happen for me to purchase “ANOTHER HEADPHONE AMP!!!” So when it gets here (next week) I’ll take it out and test it. But then it goes under the Christmas tree for a few weeks But it’ll be nice to have the Christmas / New Year holiday time to get some extra listening in.
What are the recommended headphones for the BHC? I’m planning to try / use the “standard” recommended headphones: HD6xx, DT880 600, and AT R70x. Are there other headphones that are recommended for use?
Those are basically the ones to go for under 500, I guess some other good pairings might be a t1.2, 800s, auteur, I guess vintage akg, otherwise I can’t think of many others off the top of my head
Just don’t do anything under 200 Ohms.
BHC power cable complete!
Pretty easy build, took about 1 1/2 hours, lots of twisting and braiding! For anyone interested, here’s the link to the build instructions:
Need to do some real listening with it, but first impressions sound good.
Pro tip: the Techflex mesh sheathing can melt when you shrink wrap the ends…
What the BHC does to an 880 600ohm compared it being on something like an Asgard3?
And is it more refined compared to A pads 1990 on the BHC? 880 is so cheap might aswell get it if its more refined than a 1990 on the BHC to compliment the 6xx.
Assuming it’s a BHC + SB, you will have more grand and large staging with about similar or better accuracy, more low end weight and wetness, a smoother treble response overall, more dynamics overall, better timbre, slightly less grip with a bit more loose control but not to where it’s a problem, actually a bit of a step up resolution wise, better texture, personally I’d just consider it an upgrade in most aspects outside of grip and control. It will depend on the tubes in there for how it tilts in general, but I think regardless of tubes it is a fairly fun amp, but you can lean it more forward, intimate, and energetic, or more relaxed, wide, and weighted.
Refined? I might say so, but the 1990 does have some technical advantages
I just spent a week listening to my BHC/SB with my HD600 sourced from a BF2.
Less than seven feet away, I’ve got a $20K headphone chain I can say is not as fun to listen to. It is better in every way, more accurate, better timbre, refinement, more controlled bass, but it isn’t as “fun”. God dammit.
The BHC/SB is my most listened to amp by far. It doesn’t get old. It also helps almost all my headphones are 300ohm BHC synergy monsters.
Anyone running and aftermarket cable on their BHC. I know there is the BH cable kit but i guess i am wondering if there is anything else out there that fits without hitting the transformer.
I’ve tried a few different cables and have had no fitment issues with any of them. I told myself I’d make one with a 90 degree plug because I hate the thick cables sticking up. To be honest, I haven’t paid much attention. Just plug in the same cable that I use for my SS amp when I switch them in the rotation.
Maybe the plug on the lampi cord is just extra thicc. It wanted to fit but if i pushed it down then it went from near miss, to grinding a notch.
I am using an old Iron Lung Jellyfish cable that my buddy gifted me. The difference is extremely subtle (made things sound a tiny bit sweeter to my ears). For most, I’d say it may not be worth it if you can’t get a good price. Since I got mine for free, it was a no-brainer.
Been thinking about a BHC off and on, and there’s going to be a sale soon… For those who’ve built a BHC, how hard is it to put one together if I’ve never built an amp before?
If you have patience, your detail oriented and not terrible at soldering, it’s a pretty easy Kit to assemble.
There are several reasons this is the case, the mot notable being clear instructions and the fact you can test it at various stages of the build.
I Personally hate dealing with solid core wire in point to point setups, like the bhc, but as long as your careful and pre-bend the wire to route it, it’s pretty easy. If you stress the wire at the point you stripped it, you can pretty easily break the wire, but it’s not “hard”.
Buy it with the speedball, build it without, listen for a few weeks and then install the speedball.
I found the speedball install more frustrating because getting all the wires to the various connection point and not breaking them at the point of connection was frustrating, but again with patience there isn’t anything actually hard to do in the install.
if you’re interested in buying an already assembeled BHC + SB + other upgrades, I have one that I’ve been considering selling for some time now. Message me if you are interested
Also, i hate desoldering.
Can confirm this is a excellent build as it is my old bhc it was built by a trustworthy proven builder and is fully loaded with all the most popular modifications.
Still kinda regret selling it lol
