Bottlehead Crack: An Appreciation Thread

If you have to go below bifrost tier the allo revolution with a nicer PSU is my pick, but if you can spend more than a bifrost a mhdt orchid, ank 2.1x signature, used exogal comet, doge dac 7, perhaps a metrum, used wyred4sound dac2v2, used byston bda-2. And above 2k is pretty overkill but realistically the bf2 is the sweet spot for this amp imo

Yep, solid

It feels like a slap in the face that there’s even an appreciation thread for this amp, and mine hasn’t sold lol. Dope amp btw tho for sure, carries so much soul. And that’s the most important thing to me. Altho, not gonna lie, these days i’ve been LOVING questyle for the soul it brings.

Sorry about that thread thing. But yours is priced well is pro built and has some good tubed. Are you marketing it as being with the speedball since thats a $100 upgrade?

Sorry my man. I probably would have snagged it up if I was still into headphones, or still had my HD600. Best of luck!!11!

Thanks dudes lol, all good it will sell. I’m just used to shit flying immediately but this too will sell eventually! I actually haven’t advertised it with speedball btw because I don’t really know anything about it lol. But someone in my reddit comments sounded like a salesman on it hahaha

100% list it as speedball with the small other upgrades it has. Show the pic of the underside of the chassis and note it was built by that etsy guy. Those are huge selling points imho and was the reason why I was going to grab it.

Would totally buy it off you, problem is there being that pesky puddle between the US and the EU.

Everyone here has one already.

Grabbed the Audio Note pot and Jensen caps. Those Jensens were a little of a pia as it seems not many places have ones that fit the application and the vintage ones Ive found were way off. @M0N I used the site you linked and bit the conversion bullet but it did seem to equal what they would have been from a US site, maybe $5-10 difference in the end.

Jensen did have some nice paper in oil caps but the capacitance uF ratings were no where close. Its a shame as the paper in oil copper can caps looked very promising.

Any suggestions for RCA interconnects specifically for the BHC? The chain will be BF2 > BHC+SB > Senn HD6xx/650.

I would like to keep the set to under $100, but will consider slightly higher if there is something out there extremely worth it. Sonically I want to embrace the inner tube nature of the BHC.

I don’t think the RCA would make a big difference in that chain. Get something decent, I like coax Belden with crimped Canare end and you’ll be fine. Save the $75 bucks for your next big purchase.

This guy has fair pricing and it’s good work. Complete Cable Concepts | eBay Stores

If you want a little bling I’ll sell you a pair of Audioquest Copperhead for $25 shipped, let me know what length you want.

I mean for $25 I dont think that I could buy and build the mogami based cable I was originally planning. Ill need to do some measuring then I can let you know, or feel free to PM what you have.

The correct answer to which cables for a BHC is whatever nice cables another forum member will sell you cheap as they just take up space in their draws.

Ty @dB_Cooper! Now I just need to find a space.

With the current Morrow sale the MA2 or MA3 (would be slightly over budget) comes to mind or Audioquest Golden Gate as well.

If one doesn’t get fancy connectors, you can def keep it under 100 with morrow

Got this in on loan from @Littledrummerboy yesterday. Spent the whole day listening to the R70x on the 1321/V200 stack until about 30 minutes ago, when I switched to the BHC being fed by the P6P.

First album was Led Zep Live from O2 Arena, London and I’m moving on to their CODA album, which has become a favorite for tracking imaging and staging on a few of the drum intensive tracks like Bonzo’s Montreaux and Four Hands.

I definitely see how the ‘fun’ descriptor applies to this amp. The low end fills out significantly and hits with more weight, but does seem to sacrifice a little control. The highs don’t seem as extended, but doesn’t hurt detail much. Presentation becomes a bit more intimate with a narrower stage, but more depth and a more holographic immersion.

Enjoying what I’m hearing so far.

It’s a good amp Brent.

All packed and being sent out to A_Jedi for assembly. I tried taking my own stab at it but the time and work space are still not there.

I wonder why the jensens arent more popular as theyre reasonably priced and much more form fitting.

Teasers: A_Jedi did one hell of a job, it seems the small tube may be on the deader side though. He made a tank of a cardboard shell so it could be shipped safely
