2023 HiFi Goals?/2024 HiFi Goals

Not for me. I cant say I am a fan either way but i always felt it was a steep cost, worth it or not isnt a discussion for here. But it seems people are slowly moving away from roon.

Ill also add that something made by Logitech seems suspicious as i had limited success with their stuff in the past and they dont scream audio anything to me. But once again i never tried it so what so i know.

They keep ignoring basic requests, their support staff are fucking worthless (EVERYTHING is “user error”), and they keep introducing huge bugs. I’m still using it because it works more often than not and fits my needs, but I’m growing weary of their shit.

I’m enjoying reading these. Good luck to all in your 2023 goals they’re worthy and I’ve checked quite a few of them off my would be 2022 list. John Lennon wrote, “life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans”.

  • Room treatment, mandatory even basics help a lot.
  • Improving your digital source, a must.
  • Vibration damping on components, yes sir.
  • Exploring cables try things out, they don’t have to cost an arm and a leg.

Since my list is fortunately relatively complete on the “big” things, I’m focusing on the little things. Modding some of my components to better suit me. I will be sure to share those as vapid as some may be.

This was supposed to be my first 2023 project, but the package came in early.

Other than that, goals are simple, discover a dozen new to me artists and grow my library by fifty or so new albums.

Happy new year to all. :fireworks: :sparkler: :fireworks: :sparkler:

I’d like to add some non-hifi related goals such as moving out since that’ll open up some hifi related purchases like room treatment. Listening to new (to me) music is also high priority.

Happy and Healthy New Year to all. I wish you all happy listening always!

Unfortunately, i need an AVR signal processor/pre-amplifier, room treatment, and some proper decorations and lighting in my HT room. Thus I plan on focusing a bit on home-theater this year.
Next, is to see what i can do about a sub that recently blew out in my HT room, that will need to be repaired, 2 sounds better than 1

If i can manage to sell a few pieces to off set the cost i would like to go w/ all Innuos software streamers across my systems and completely leave the ROON interface. The Innuos software has better SQ by enough difference to be worthwhile compared to what changes in cables, power re-gen, speaker upgrades and other tweaks cost. Two more Innuos streamers, even their lowest tier to use as end-points, would be less expensive than any other tweaks i could make and still allow me to have 4 full hi-fi systems. (Mixed HP & 2 channel).

This will the the focus, that’s a pretty hefty list of nice to have’s; the home repairs will always take priority so who knows how much i’ll be able to get to but it’s nice to have a plan.

Happy New Year! I hope you’ve all had a good start.

For 2023 my main goal is to continue sizing down my collection and finding satisfaction with what I have - already on a good way there!
(I bought some gear that I haven’t posted publicly here yet. Might post impressions after some time.)

Secondarily, I’m also planning on getting appropriate cables for my set-up and finally solidifying my opinion on the Utopia.

Happy New Year

It was an interesting read, some people very much looking for new things, some consolidating. I think the one I want to respond to directly is MON.

I hope you find your passion for your hobby again. You’ve given so much to all of us that I hope we can in some way return the favour and help you enjoy your interest again. Back to basics maybe, listen, groove, enjoy?

To everyone else, I look forward to looking at pictures, reading opinions and seeing where your hobby takes you in the coming year.

Myself I have a couple of goals. Finally get around to my interconnects. Finally get over my writing block and do the article I promised. Other than that I am going to build the ACA Mini whose pcb is sitting on my desk and if that goes well I want to build a phono preamp in the tail end of the year. I decided to finish off my modest two channel chain and stop chasing things for headphones since I realised how much I am already enjoying what I have!

The only exception is if I can I would love to save up for the Denon AH 9200. I will see how that goes.

I really enjoy these threads, gives me a good opportunity to think back over the last year and consider what I want to do over the next year.

Last year I bought way too many things but I also started selling gear which made it easier to try new things I wanted. I’ve ended up in a place where I’m pretty happy with my setup and don’t feel the need to upgrade although I do have a new preamp on the way. Right now I am running a Bricasti MC1 → Schiit Freya + and N with different sets of rolled tubes, → Schiit Tyrs → Zynsonix speaker to headphone box. I really like how this sounds and is much cheaper then the setup I had mid year with the WA33 Elite. Works with all my headphones and the flexibility of the Freya is nice when used with easy to drive headphones that might show the noise floor of the tubes so I can switch to the solid state modes.

For 2023, here are my goals / thoughts

  1. Try more headphones and figure out which ones I want to keep. Having 10+ in rotation gets confusing so I need to narrow down my choices.
  2. Get a higher tier solid state pre amp (pass, holo, etc) and compare with the LTA preamp I have on the way.
  3. Tubes have been an annoyance and distraction at times from just enjoying the music so I may look to go 100% solid state again.
  4. Try out a dedicated streamer or invest in nicer Roon specific gear. So thinking about something like an Aurender or Innuos or investing in a nicer Roon core and endpoint that I’d build myself.
  5. Try other dacs. I want to hear the Yggy OG to complete my Full Schiit Setup and I may consider something else to upgrade to from my MC1 or just to serve as a complement to it.

That’s it, hoping I can chill out with all the audio purchases, but I doubt it

Just thought of one more “goal” for this year - get quotes for running dedicated power circuit in my house for use only with HiFi gear. Not sure if I’ll pull the trigger on it, but I really want to know what the $$$ will be.

My big purchase in 2022 set me up pretty good going into 2023. So, in 2023 I plan to tackle the “low hanging fruits” that can help improve my 2ch setup.

  • speaker placement
  • room treatment
  • try different/higher grade cables
  • better LPS for rpi4
  • try power regen
  • continue to build my local flac library

I really am enjoying what I have put together currently thanks to everyone here.

Now that I caught the virus, i am hoping some immunity is going to be built up and I am a little braver socially. I am still not the hottest on big crowds but I would like to…

  • Go to some shows. I never been to one but CanJam NYC is Feb 25-26th.
  • Listen to more equipment. This ties in with shows a little, but also…
  • Meeting more people. Especially as a few of you graciously have invited me for listens. I would like to actually take advantage of that.
  • Clean things up. Find better ways to store things, get rid of the riff raff, etc.
  • Invest in more music & high quality lossless files to replace the low quality lingering files.
  • Actually get a NAS going or LMS/Squeezebox or something i can grow with.

2023 Goal: Subwoofer (or dual subs). Still unsure of what brand to use. My 2 ch setup is purely music but I’m unsure of which brand and models have the best value.

2023 Wishes:

  • Room treatment. Not sure where to go with this either or how to get accurate recommendations and I don’t have enough pocket money anymore to just throw it at this without having confidence.
  • Upgrade my schiit phono, probably a tube phono from Bottlehead. The only thing holding back is $$$

Future Wishes:

  • Subwoofers for my TV and my desk setups.
  • An upgraded streamer. The ultrarendu seems nice but $1000?? :skull_and_crossbones: (using LMS of course)
  • A server to back up my music and movies and also run my Jellyfin instance. Hard drives get pricey when you want a lot for redundancy.
  • Passlabs headphone amp. Probably never gonna happen

Hello,
And a happy new year to all.

I don’t really have anything planned except to replace my Dac, which I wanted to do last year.
That would be a good step forward.
I may have already found something there.
I don’t know yet whether it will come this year in addition to the Lampizator.
I’ve been struggling with this topic and a demon for a long time and can’t find a common denominator.

On the wish list for sure:
Cayin Ha 3a in black
A nice Zmf Atrium with soft wood with an open back, even if Zmf would bring one closed, that would be a highlight.:innocent:
If possible a Meze Empyrean listen.
Depending on the case, it should be a streaming dac to bring the whole thing to fibre optics, but that’s all up in the air.

Surprisingly, my list is smaller, but it costs something.

Towards the end of the year I was able to test the phono stage from Ifi.
And I’m almost in vinyl fever again, so a new record player could be a possibility and various vinyl records could also sweeten the evening with a nice bottle of whisky.:see_no_evil:

I am sure that this year there will be one or the other thing that could possibly become a must have.

I think the only goal for this year is to finally get a turntable after the past year of collecting vynils.

Gonna try to focus on reviewing my gear. I want to “reset” and start reviewing lower end headphones then work my way up. Goal is 18 reviews by June.

depending on what you call a review but that’s a crazy number, most (if not all?) full time reviewers don’t get to that I think. Look forward to all you have to share, you definitely been through a lot of interesting gear lately.

Probably a couple of paragraphs or a 5 minute video. I was thinking 3-4 per month for five months.

First four will be the ZMF line which I should have done by the end of the February. After that, I was thinking of reviewing some Sennheiser (HD800, HD800s, HD6XX, HD660s and whatever else I can get my hands on). That will probably take up March and some of April.

I got some Myspheres 3.2 already this Year, so getting a nice long balanced cable for it.
If I dont like it on my speaker amp then probably getting another Headphone Amp.
Getting my second e bike, the first one was maybe the best Purchase I made.
I also dont have a streamer yet, so thats a plan.
And sell or trade some more Headphones.

Saving up for and figuring out what amp I want to pair with the Yggy OG I just bought! I’ve been reading and reading about possible pairings for my LCD-24’s, but man it’s hard to settle. I’d love a tube hybrid but there seems to be little above the Liquid Platinum unless I go way, way up, and I’m not comfortable spending that kind of money just yet, and not without a lot of research. I also really love the Neve, lol, so I’m just going to see if anything makes sense. Bass impact and slam is as important to me as timbre, making it hard to suss out what the hell I want, and I’m new to the higher end of things.

I do not know if it is the “Best” pairing you could do, but it is one that IMO sounds terrific and is also commensurate in technical ability and pricing with the Yggy, and that is the Violectric HPA V550.

I am extremely biased so keep that in mind - Just the other night in fact, I posted on a discord

Completely infatuated with the LCD-24 tonight, working from the Yggy/v550 setup. "
